If you are just a beginner i suggest I definitely discourage you to start with this product, and to start with something more easier. IF you still decide to start with it, then probably it would be best to get some good books. It's powerful toolset, and support for dozens, if not hundreds of third-party tools means that After Effects can handle any VFX challenge imaginable. Stock Ae is very capable, including basic particle systems, 2D and 3D compositing, 3D camera solves, and a powerful set of "Expressions" that can automate many tasks. With the proper plug-ins, Ae can animate 3D models, speed up and slow down footage by ridiculous amounts, create advanced particle systems, and anything else you can imagine. **What do you dislike about Adobe After Effects?** As with all Adobe products, starting with the "CC" revision, After Effects can no longer be "owned," merely "rented." Once you stop paying your yearly subscription fee, you will be locked out of the software, and your own projects. **Recommendations to others considering Adobe After Effects:** Once again, if you're comfortable with being locked into a "rental" you can't go wrong. It's user interface is overwhelming to novices, and unfortunately there is still a large learning curve even if you know other Adobe software (like Photoshop, InDesign etc.).
