Too slow and too glitchy! **Rating:** 1.0/5.0 stars **Reviewed by:** Verified User in Writing and Editing | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.) **Reviewed Date:** April 27, 2018 **What do you like best about Adobe Acrobat Reader?** There are tons of features and you can import pages into documents easily **What do you dislike about Adobe Acrobat Reader?** The program is so slow and glitches so much that it’s super annoying to use. It constantly crashes and will give me errors and I have to end it from task manager to restart it. This is especially annoying when working on a document and suddenly the page is gone **What problems is Adobe Acrobat Reader solving and how is that benefiting you?** We use it with DocuTrack and paperless. It’s good for importing documents and stapling them together ### 2. Stay away from this PDF application **Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars **Reviewed by:** Derek R. | Developer, Computer Software, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.) **Reviewed Date:** December 11, 2015 **What do you like best about Adobe Acrobat Reader?** I suppose if I have to pick something I would day that installation and setup is fairly easy. It always downloads the latest version and installs it. It does have a nice interface and supports some features that would be better for advanced users. These features most people will never use (things like watermark support and encryption). The only other thing I can think of is that it has a somewhat easy to understand UI, but this is not true at all times. Sometimes the UI gets a little confusing at times since it uses a strange ordering mechanism. That could just be a bug though... **What do you dislike about Adobe Acrobat Reader?** Where do I begin? First of all, the application is huge! It's like 180MB! Compared to MuPDF, SumatraPDF, Evince, or Okular, that's huge! Second, the application is basically a giant ad for Adobe Acrobat. In my opinion, if you want me to buy your application, then you should not pester me with buying your product every time the application is opened, or if the PDF I am trying to open supports "advanced" features. You should allow me to see the benefits, then I will want to buy the application. Your application should sell itself. Third, performance on Adobe Reader is absolutely atrocious. It takes forever to load, and when it does, it often hasn't loaded the next page. This is a big problem because I open PDF images to look at the contents, not the index and the cover. Even after I let it load, I could've read the entire document in LibreOffice, OpenOffice, SumatraPDF, MuPDF, or Evince. I can't believe I am going to say this, but even Microsoft Office is better at this! Lastly, and probably the biggest problem, is security. Adobe Reader and Adobe Acrobat are extremely vulnerable. Not only that, they are targeted because they are the most popular PDF viewers and editors. As such, products like this should be avoided simply because 0 day vulnerabilities are a huge problem. You can protect yourself with some software and some common sense, but you probably should just switch to viewing PDF files in an office suite, web browser, or a different PDF application. Anyway, security built-in to PDF files is noticeably lax. (See wikihow.com/Unlock-a-Secure-PDF-File) Most PDF "security" can be outright removed or bypassed using simple methods. This means any file you find online could potentially be harmful. But so could any file you download off of the internet. Just be cautious, and you will be fine. PDF security has been cracked and hacked over and over. So what do you do? Well, switch PDF viewers for one. Another option is just use your web browser to view PDF files. This is way more secure than using Adobe Reader. Office suites often have PDF support as well. LibreOffice and OpenOffice should have PDF support, so you can also try that. I'm not trying to say that PDF files are going to kill your computer, that is a very rare occurrence. What I am saying is that you should be cautious with PDF documents, as you would be with other files you download off of the internet. **Recommendations to others considering Adobe Acrobat Reader:** Find something different. Anything is better. Web browser, office suite, or use MuPDF, Evince, or SumatraPDF. Foxit is better than Adobe, but I don't recommend that either, since it is commercial and is starting to take the same path Adobe is. Okular is another choice, but I have no experience using that so I can't recommend it without experience. My recommendation on Windows would be to use Firefox or Chrome, unless you want to view it locally, then I would use SumatraPDF. On Linux, use LibreOffice or Evince in place of SumatraPDF. **What problems is Adobe Acrobat Reader solving and how is that benefiting you?** This applies to more than just business settings since it is a general piece of software. But I imagine if you have a PDF viewer installed on your PC anywhere, it is most likely this application (unfortunately).
