Just to clarify: Acumatica does include built‑in reports for things like A/R aging and Sales (for example, A/R aging by period, sales by customer/item, invoice-based sales reports, etc.). That said, you’re right that many customers end up customizing these or building their own versions because Acumatica is very flexible and can be tailored to each business. If your system was heavily customized or the standard reports weren’t shown during onboarding, it can definitely feel like you have to build everything from scratch. If you’re open to it, we’d be happy to take a quick look at your setup, point you to the existing reports, and see if there are gaps, we should address in our defaults or documentation. Acumatica does not recognize revenue that is attributed to labor hours (professional services) in real time. Using a schedule to do so at an elected frequency is not ideal as financials are therefore not always up to date. Furthermore, Acumatica is not bound by the dollar limits of the actual project and will over-recognize revenue if actual costs exceed budgeted amounts, requiring manual intervention via journal entries to claw-back the excess revenue. This leads to overstated financials unless and until you review each open project to confirm excess revenue has not been recognized. 2)Ease with customizing reports and general inquiries is sorely needed. This especially comes into play if the fields you wish to include are not part of the standard report. You cannot filter on a field if it is not an option to begin with. Havin the ability to easily add fields that already exist in Acumatica to canned reports or GI's would greatly improve data analysis. One minor issue only because it is needed once annually: 1099 reporting. Would be ideal to be able to print and file 1099s directly from Acumatica as well as the 1096. Electronic filing of your 1096 is now required for filers with more than 10 1099's. We currently have to use an outside software program to do this. **What problems is Acumatica solving and how is that benefiting you?** centralizing all company operations and accounting **Official Response from Ashley Spence:** > Hi there, thank you for sharing your feedback with us. I'd like to address the challenges you've expressed: The Allocate Budget Method seamlessly determines the percentage of completion based on the Cost Budget and applies this percentage to the Revenue Budget. This process runs automatically in the background, ensuring efficient and accurate calculations. For the Project Transaction Method, the system posts transactions to accurately determine if the Revenue Budget exceeds 100%. In regard to the ease of customizing reports and general inquiries, some fields can be easily added to Generic Inquiries and Reports, while others may require more effort or a customization. My organization's primary use case for Acumatica is Time and Billing. That said, everything beyond that immediate use case that we have thrown at has run without issue. Complicated commission account, payment collections, notification campaigns, it can do it all. **What do you dislike about Acumatica?** Acumatica is not very forgiving when it comes to unmanaged coding practices. Additionally, any 3rd party support vendors, in our experience, typically do not adhere to Acumatica's defined coding standards. That said, that shortfall can be corrected by licensing Acumatica's Premier Support. **What problems is Acumatica solving and how is that benefiting you?** We are using Acumatica primarily for time and billing. We are also using it for project tracking and coding a custom Commission Accounting feature. We have realized a host of "lost" revenue based on poor time logging practices. ### 5. Without even needing to code, you can utilize GIs to manipulate and create almost anything when it comes to the data within Acumatica. Coded customizations and 3rd Party softwares further that capability. Another thing I like is that they have a wide and responsive community forum. **What do you dislike about Acumatica?** One of the things I dislike about Acumatica is that it is very tough to undo miniscule mistakes when it comes to receiving, invoicing, shipping, etc. While yes in a robust operation, these errors shouldnt happen if a company has scanners/flushed out processes but for smaller companies where human error and manual processes are prevalent it can provide lots of hardships trying to fix the error. **What problems is Acumatica solving and how is that benefiting you?** Acumatica is helping me provide better solutions and readily accessible data to provide to executives that can cover profit margins, production capacity, work distribution, etc. **Official Response from Ashley Spence:** > Hi John, Thank you for sharing your experience with our ERP solution! The user experience is simplified, yet the erp system is feature rich and allows me to set track and manage my workflows and activities with ease. I also like the fact that Acumatica has industry specific editions which allow us to compete in sectors which have specific requirements. These industry specific editions combined with the fact that Acumatica integrates with many 3rd party systems using API's which simplifies the process. The feature I love the most is the mobile app option which I believe is a game changer for the South African business market. **What do you dislike about Acumatica?** From a features and functionality perspective I do not have the expertise or knowledge to comment. I do however feel like Acumatica the business could review how they look to target the African Market and consider adjusting their pricing models and maybe create a version of the Acumatica Cloud ERP to target smaller businesses. I do believe if these 2 factors are considered and adjusted Acumatica could attack Africa's ERP Market Share. **What problems is Acumatica solving and how is that benefiting you?** Acumatica's CRM functionality is incredible allowing us to manage the marketing and customer interactions whilst also being able to view all customer interactions, allowing us to keep all stakeholders informed at every stage of an activity or process. ### 8. Learning the system has been fairly easy coming into the organization and moving from another ERP to Acumatica in three months would have been more challenging if Acumatica wasn't so user friendly. **What do you dislike about Acumatica?** Getting used to all the third party plug in solutions is challenging because the annual cost to maintain the system can multiply relatively quickly. The other challenge we have found is around ERP/Commercial transactions. Our ERP transactions are running 6 or 7:1 to commerical transactions and it makes me tentative adding additional features. **What problems is Acumatica solving and how is that benefiting you?** Getting better information through BOM's for our manufacturing process and streamlining various accounting functions like credit card collections for our customers using processing through Acumatica. **Official Response from Ashley Spence:** > Hi Tom! In our search for something to replace it, we were looking for something that was user-friendly, cost-effective for our small team, and would expand our capabilities to allow us to grow. We have found it to be just that and are relatively happy with our decision to go with this platform. It's forced us to really think through workflows and streamline our processes as a team, which is helpful! We also find it helpful to have visibility into what our entire team is doing. We can see the whole process, from Purchase Orders, to Sales Orders, payments, etc., and have a better idea of item/order statuses without having to shout down the hall to ask. Get yourself a good VAR because it makes a huge difference! You will rely on them for so much. We were paired with one that works well for our team. **What do you dislike about Acumatica?** Acumatica has a lot of incredibly cool features, but some of them require add-ons or customizations. Our general theme in searching for an ERP platform was "If Quickbooks can do it, so should you." For example, the Document Recognition software is really neat, but it's an added monthly charge. That's something that the basic Quickbooks package offers for free. We started our Acumatica journey with a new (to us) payment processor, but had many issues with their integration. We ended up switching to Acumatica Payments, which actually saves us a good chunk of money in CC fees, but in doing so we also lost some functionality and it forced us to upgrade earlier than we had planned to do so. I imagine that integration issues are common across the board for ERPs, but we really have been pretty pleased with Acumatica. **What problems is Acumatica solving and how is that benefiting you?** Overall, Acumatica is helping us streamline and improve our processes so we can make intelligent, data-based decisions to grow our business. **Official Response from David De Rego:** > Thank you for the review. Having all AP/AR related transactions in one place is incredible. Now we are even intergarted with Acupay so can collect payments from clients much more effiently than in the past. **What do you dislike about Acumatica?** Fortis pay ease of implementation would be a 0. Then getting support on the Acumatica side is impossible, we paid a small fortune to our VAR partner for support but never got the solution we wanted. It would be great to have a support team from Acumatica that would not be $250/hr. There is so much to learn and not enough time to stop and watch tutorials. Importing time cards is very challenging as well. Correcting time cards is also frustrating when jobs are closed or if you are only correcting one line but the entire time card is resubmitted so the client will see that on every project, unrelated to the correction, that the employee worked on in that time card. Invoice templates are my biggest issue with Acumatica, it really isn't user friendly to change the format of invoices. **What problems is Acumatica solving and how is that benefiting you?** Invoicing clients is full of checks and balances which is great. We can run over 100 projects at a time thanks to Acumatica. ### 11. Once we switched to a competent VAR and brought in a consultant for our business processes we've been able to get great resutls. **What do you dislike about Acumatica?** Initially a VAR with the wrong background and weak mnfct. practices resulted in a failed implementation that caused a lot of damage over a year. Like any complex tool, it needs to be understood and needs skilled implementers to help. **What problems is Acumatica solving and how is that benefiting you?** It allows us to connect all data from start to finish through a manufacturing process, and has started generating useful reports for us. ### 12. This gets to be very combersome when trying to scale as a small to midsize business. There isn't a native calendar unless we pay for their field service app. Tracking events and activities is done through the entries and visible through GI (Generic Inquiry) searching.
