Limited template variety & design flexibility (branding constraints for B2B) While the drag‑and‑drop editor is easy, the pre‑built template library is small, and advanced design customization is restricted. Example: We serve German B2B clients in manufacturing, IT, and consulting—each with strict brand guidelines (specific fonts, color palettes, and layout rules). ActiveTrail has only about 20–30 base templates, most of which are generic. We can tweak colors and logos, but we cannot fully customize the layout structure (e.g., split‑screen designs, custom footers with legal info required in Germany). We end up rebuilding similar layouts from scratch repeatedly, which is inefficient. Also, multilingual support is basic: we manage German/English campaigns for clients, but the platform doesn’t let us save language‑specific template versions in one place—we have to duplicate templates and edit text manually. This simplicity is a massive advantage for our small B2B team in Hong Kong. Additionally, I appreciate that the email editor is drag-and-drop and stable, enabling us to build professional, mobile-friendly templates quickly without unexpected formatting issues. We sometimes have to simplify our workflows to fit what the platform supports. For automation, it lacks support for multi‑condition, behavior‑based triggers that we need for B2B lead nurturing. For example, we can’t easily set up workflows that react to combinations of actions—like 'if a contact opens two emails but doesn’t click, send a different follow‑up' or 'exclude clients who already purchased a service'. The timezone- and region-specific trigger timing is incredibly impactful for global teams, adjusting delivery to every subscriber's local timezone with just a click, saving us from creating multiple regional journeys. I also appreciate how the builder handles regional conditional logic, embedding specific content for EU, US, or APAC within the same journey node, which cuts our journey build time for global campaigns by 60–70% and eliminates the risk of inconsistent messaging.
