"Predatory Billing Practices & Zero Accountability"
0/5
What do you like best about ActiveCampaign?

This was my first email marketing platform, and I used it for 10 years out of sheer loyalty and inertia. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about ActiveCampaign?

ActiveCampaign has become one of the most frustrating, opaque, and predatory services I've ever dealt with.

Without my consent, they upgraded my plan from $714/year to $1,980/year — nearly 3x more — for the same plan I was on. No invoice, no alert, no chance to cancel before the charge hit my account. I only discovered the charge when reviewing billing info for tax season. Their email “notice” of the price hike? Buried in generic marketing updates, I didn’t open until after they billed me.

When I reached out the same day I noticed the charge, they stalled for 5 days — and in the meantime, locked me out of the service unless I agreed to new terms. Terms I had never accepted and still don’t agree to.

Their Terms of Service don’t permit this kind of switch — you can’t just swap someone’s plan and triple the cost without affirmative consent. It’s unethical, possibly illegal, and beyond unacceptable in 2025.

I’ve now filed a PayPal dispute and may pursue legal action for unauthorized billing and blocking access to a paid service.

Avoid this company at all costs. Their support is slow, their pricing is deceptive, and once they have your payment info, you’re at their mercy. Don’t risk your business on a company that treats its customers like this.

PS. Want to speak to a real person? Nope, all you'll get is chatbots and emails -- you're lucky if they respond 5 days later to ask for a verification code.

Regarding AI? I tried their AI predictive sending and my leads received emails at 2 in the morning. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"😡A unilateral change of the rules, unacceptable!"

What do you like best about ActiveCampaign?

Email deliverability which is rather good Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about ActiveCampaign?

This sudden change directly affects my business model. They change the rules of the game after locking customers into an ecosystem, which I personally consider a form of abusive, if not misleading, practice.

I am very disappointed by this shift taken by ActiveCampaign, which now focuses more on forced monetization than on transparency or customer loyalty.

I am currently examining alternatives. And from reading feedback on Reddit, G2, or professional forums, I am far from being the only one in this situation.

I have been an ActiveCampaign customer for several years, and until now I was generally satisfied with the service. But today I feel betrayed by their recent decision to limit email sending to only 10× the number of contacts, regardless of the plan (Lite, Plus, etc.).

This change came without real consultation or respect for long-time users, who built their entire marketing strategy on the old rules. ActiveCampaign was positioned until recently as a premium solution, but today, we pay more and more to receive less and less.

➡️ Specifically, for a base of 10,000 contacts, it is now impossible to send more than 100,000 emails/month, under penalty of being charged $0.005 per additional email... which means hundreds of euros in extra costs in the case of a normal promotional campaign (such as launch, follow-up, or automation).

It's a shame that a platform so well designed functionally disappoints so much on the relational level. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Customer service, Pricing, deliverability all horrible."
0.5/5
What do you like best about ActiveCampaign?

The automations are very powerful in ActiveCampaign, but sometimes you need external software to do specific tasks outside of ActiveCampaign. ActiveCampaign was always designed to be a great core email and sales automation platform that integrates with others.

You can just do more things with ActiveCampaign that you can't do with other core email and sales automation platforms. Customer service, Pricing, deliverability all horrible. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about ActiveCampaign?

Customer service, Pricing, deliverability all horrible. Sometimes you need external software to do specific tasks outside of ActiveCampaign

They went up in Price (for no reason) and said they would give me 6 weeks notice. Instead they charged me the higher price in 2 weeks. Then denied it. Made me send proof of the charge.

Price is TOO high. But with all the integration you are forced to use since they don't have much functionality on it's own..... It makes it hard to move to a more simple solution.

Deliverability - Check out the facebook groups... thats 1/2 the post and my clients say continually they didn't get the emails. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

"Prices Just Keep Going Up"

What do you like best about ActiveCampaign?

Good ecommerce integrations and automations. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about ActiveCampaign?

ActiveCampaign have inceased the price on us almost 100% over the past 3 years. I just took the time to have a Zoom call and calmly lay out why this doesn't work for us. Their response - to offer us a lower level of service for almost the same price. So if we downgrade, we get less for the same price. If we switch to monthly (so we can leave if we want to without being tied in for a year - there are no refunds) - you guessed it - we pay even more. I feel like we are being backed into a corner with the choice of pay up or change provider. The choice is not going to be to pay up. I have no confidence that prices won't continue to increase. This feels like classic VC ownership - squeeze more out of the customers and don't worry if they leave. Which is fine if their objective is to have a handful of customers left paying a small fortune. Do you want to be one of those customers? Trust has been damaged and becaues of that we now have to figure out where to move next, rather than focussing on our business. "Leaving after 10 years. Overcharged by 22,900%."

What do you like best about ActiveCampaign?

I’ve been quoted an outrageous $15,000 just to unlock my account so it can resume sending emails. The new pricing plans are absolutely abysmal, prioritizing profit over customer experience. This is the second overcharge in a week—$3,000 earlier, and now this $15,000 bill. To make matters worse, their system claims my account sent 1.4 million emails (which it hasn’t—I've checked their reports), yet they still expect me to pay for it?

My account rep is nowhere to be found and claims he has no power to fix this. Live chat support is clueless and unable to help. I’ve submitted 16 tickets, and not a single one has been answered. No one from the company has reached out to resolve this. Meanwhile, we're receiving 40+ complaints daily from customers because our automated emails aren’t sending.

This is beyond unacceptable—it’s a complete breakdown of customer service and operational accountability. What a joke. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about ActiveCampaign?

Long time customer, since 2014. Ive watched this company since about 2020, put profit over product. Active camapign was always product first, not sure where it changed but it was sometime around 2020. Increased fees for no usable features, you get less for more, its a shame. I'll be moving our 31 clients off active campaign this year and myself. Profit over product always loses Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you like best about ActiveCampaign?

The API and database are comprehensive, but that is the only thing I like about ActiveCampaign. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

What do you dislike about ActiveCampaign?

The campaign builder is janky. There are bugs that slow my workflow down. The UI is at times confusing and not well designed. The cost is too high imo. I dread having to fix whatever goes wrong with our templates and automations because it means I've just lost a couple days of work. I don't find using ActiveCampaign ease or intuitive. Customer support is not ever helpful from a technical perspective. I strongly dislike ActiveCampaign and would not recommend it to anyone at any level of business.
