## ActiveBatch Reviews
  ### 1. Activabatch is easy to use and has many amazing features and functionalities.

**Rating:** 4.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Daniel H. | Principal Software Engineer, Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 21, 2020

**What do you like best about ActiveBatch?**

I implemented Activabatch at LA Metro back in 2018. My developers love it so much because it is so easy to use and creating a job is becoming a very simple task for them via a template that I created for them. The template has steps that cover all the scenarios so you no longer have to babysit your jobs anymore. For example, if your job is successful you have the option to send an email to your support staff members otherwise, if your job fails with an error or aborts you or your support staff members will automatically receive an email alert. Also, with the versioning control you can keep track of what the changes are and for some reasons you need to go back to a prior version you could do that easily. After more than 2 years, I have gained more exeprience and knowledge with Activebatch I started to take advantage of Activebatch web services. recently, I successfully integrated Activebatch into an in-house reporting system written in VB.NET using Activebatch Commands API. The users now can easily submit jobs and view the generated reports within the reporting system without having to use Activebatch console. In addition, I just upgraded Activabatch from verion 10 to version 12. Let me tell you, the new Activebatch console is much open and nicer because it take advantage of the whole screen and give you a feeling of completeness. My next project will be to enhance the VB.NET Reporting system to use the new Activebatch REST API instead of the Activebatch Commands web service. What I like most about Activabatch it is a software that keeps evolving and coming up with new fuctionality and features to make automation easier and easier to accomplish without bounderies.

**What do you dislike about ActiveBatch?**

I wish that the user guide has more real-life examples. Believe or not I learned a lot from the examples. Also, what I dislike the most is the need to use of self-signed certificate for the Activebatch Rest API. I personally find this approach is cumbersome and sometimes even confusing and hard to setup. Fortunately, there is a workaround; you could add a variable #ActiveBatch.UseJSSWS=0 to force Activebatch to trigger jobs via COM instead of the Rest API.

**What problems is ActiveBatch solving and how is that benefiting you?**

With Activebatch in place, we now have a much more robust Enterprise job scheduler that could be used by different groups in the organization without any problems. Each group can see only objects within their own folder. More and more manual tasks have been converted into Activabatch jobs in order to save resource and manpower.

  ### 17. Enterprise Scheduler That Works

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospital & Health Care | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 26, 2020

**What do you like best about ActiveBatch?**

+ Pricing is great when compared to other enterprise schedulers. No fee-per-job which I've seen warp the job creation process in other businesses. Also finding anything that's not software-as-a-service model now is great. If I was happy with the current version we could stop paying support and our scheduler could keep running jobs forever with no more dollars spent.

+ It just works. After 2 years of constantly running I've only seen the scheduler lock up once and it was related to a temporary network outage.

+ ActiveBatch is capable of scheduling lots of different things in lots of different ways. I can't imagine a scheduling use case that it wouldn't be able to solve.

**What do you dislike about ActiveBatch?**

- Many things are not intuitive and there is a medium to large learning curve. For instance we run a lot of database queries through the scheduler. In the job steps for those there is a standalone connection step or you can input connection info directly on the query step. When to use each of these options is not clear until you've tested and used the product a lot. A better guide or prompts would help new devs.

- Silently failing configuration changes. For instance when changing some of our retention logs for jobs to more than 1 day the change will be accepted, but will revert minutes later with no warning or error message ever given to us. Still investigating the cause of this but silently reverting with no error thrown didn't help.

- CTRL+G to search by object ID. In my opinion this should be an option under CTRL+F to serach by object ID. Every dev on my team winds up asking how to do this or why searches don't return object IDs.

- Training does not cover every use case and does not go in depth into every type of job step. I would love to see focused training for various use cases since we do not use 80% of the job types.

**What problems is ActiveBatch solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Jobs were scheduled across many servers and apps which are now being consolidated to a centralized scheduler.

This helps immensely when determining maintenance windows or cross-impacting outages.

  ### 34. Great tool to consolidate scheduling needs.

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Staffing and Recruiting | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 28, 2019

**What do you like best about ActiveBatch?**

The scheduling part of ActiveBatch. Once the job is setup properly, the job runs on time and ActiveBatch has great set of tools to enable auditing, and monitoring of the jobs. Also ActiveBatch self service portal allows my users to monitor and launch their own jobs.

**What do you dislike about ActiveBatch?**

Job recovery could be more robust. If the job fails the job does not restart at the point of failure. AB does have some check pointing, but that feature should be enhanced.

The internal language can be cryptic at time. Over time we have used this part less and powershell more often. So this issue is pretty minor

**What problems is ActiveBatch solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We bought AB to handle our outgoing FTP processes. Over time we realized AB could handle a number of different technologies, therefore we could move all our schedule task to a central location. As an added bonus, our uses could manage their own jobs without much IT support.

  ### 35. Newbie

**Rating:** 4.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jack M. M. | Technical Support Analyst, Information Services, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 28, 2019

**What do you like best about ActiveBatch?**

The power, this system, and I call it a system because of it's many components/compartments is very useful in a full array of situations. It is highly adaptable.

**What do you dislike about ActiveBatch?**

With power and usefulness comes complexity. With little experience with the product it can be daunting to just jump in. Fortunately I have coworkers who have used this product for years and they are keen to help. One comment I hear from my lead is our whole company runs on the product and it would take a 100 employees to do what we do with Active Batch

**What problems is ActiveBatch solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Our whole operation is automated with Active Batch we rely on it exclusively

  - [What is the best way to retain 10 days of log information on each job. This is one area where the documentation can use recommendations. For example, I want to see how the job performed, via the log, from 10 days ago. Today, the log would show GetFile failed if older than three days, or thereabouts.](https://www.g2.com/discussions/31795-what-is-the-best-way-to-retain-10-days-of-log-information-on-each-job-this-is-one-area-where-the-documentation-can-use-recommendations-for-example-i-want-to-see-how-the-job-performed-via-the-log-from-10-days-ago-today-the-log-would-show-getfile-fail) - 2 comments, 3 upvotes
