## Act! Reviews
  ### 1. Essential for Database Management with Mail Merge Perks

**Rating:** 0.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jodie F. | Realtor, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 21, 2023

**What do you like best about Act!?**

I love Act!'s mail merge feature, which allows me to print out labels and customized letters. It really helps me with database management by remembering important details like dates, addresses, emails, spouses' birthdays, and children's birthdays.

**What do you dislike about Act!?**

Since Act! moved online, sometimes the format changes, and it's difficult for me to get it back to the way I like it.

**What problems is Act! solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Act! helps me remember important details like dates, addresses, and birthdays. I love the mail merge feature for printing customized letters and labels.

**Official Response from Leslie Reynolds:**

> Thank you Jodie, for your feedback. We devote a lot of resources to Customer Success because we know it’s critical to our success and hope you’ll give our Support team another try at https://www.act.com/resources/contact/ or call 866-873-2006. In addition, we strive to keep Act! affordable for today's small businesses while delivering meaningful, scalable features and customizability as many other CRMs are significantly more expensive. For example, Act! Premium is currently starting at only $30/user/mo vs. Salesforce at $150, SugarCRM at $85, and Keap at $149.

  ### 2. ACT Sucks Working with Outlook

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Consulting | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 20, 2026

**What do you like best about Act!?**

Nothing. We are stuck with you... for now.

**What do you dislike about Act!?**

We have used ACT so long, we are reluctant to jump at this point to another CRM. Our endless problem for years is that ACT will not stay integrated with Outlook and it fails weekly. Outlook tosses ACT out for being too slow. It has been a nightmare. Thousands of contact data points lost because ACT does not warn us when it goes offline...We have reset it a thousand times and someone in India tells us every damn year that "they are working on it." Customer Support is clueless. Whatever.

**What problems is Act! solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It refuses to stay integrated with Outlook Microsoft 365. Falls out every few days...we have rebooted them back together 100s of times only to see them separate without warning a few days later.

**Official Response from Leslie Reynolds:**

> We are sorry that you’re experiencing this problem. We understand it's frustrating and want to help. We hope you’ll give our Support team another try at 866-873-2006.

  ### 3. Toby Huff Act Reveiw 2025

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Plastics | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 25, 2025

**What do you like best about Act!?**

I have used it since 1999 and only one I have experience with over the decades.

**What do you dislike about Act!?**

1) This Survey was hard to get to.
2) That Act now holds me hostage to my history, customers and prospects because I have to pay a "ransom"/subscription of over $600.00 / year. I am really pissed off about this. I used to pay for this as a stand alone and did not risk loss of my data of over 25 years.
3) I have never been able to setup my outlook calendar on this program.

**What problems is Act! solving and how is that benefiting you?**

None that I use. I do not use all of the features of Act that I could.

**Official Response from Leslie Reynolds:**

> We're sorry to hear that you had a poor experience and have reached out in an attempt to resolve your issues.

  ### 4. Great CRM! Horrible Problem Resolution!!

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Manufacturing | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 03, 2025

**What do you like best about Act!?**

It mostly has unlimited fields and data capacity!

You can search with virtually little information and retrieve what you need.

**What do you dislike about Act!?**

1. I spent almost $15,000 on Act! And now, I need several reports from technical support; which I requested on 6-7-occasions, with NO SUCCESS!
2. You never get the same person on your case twice, so you have to repeat over-and-over the probem! Very frustrating!

**What problems is Act! solving and how is that benefiting you?**

ACT! Marketing Automation is cheaper than most other options. But, it is antiquated and thus very combersome!

ACT! is very beneficial at keeping all information in one place, but unless you personally load the information, it does not incorporate (self-populate) the information in the database.

**Official Response from Leslie Reynolds:**

> Thanks for sharing your feedback. We’re sorry you’re experiencing a problem like this, we devote a lot of resources to Customer Success because we know it’s critical to our success. We hope you’ll give our Support team another try at https://www.act.com/resources/contact/ or call 866-873-2006.

  ### 5. Act! has gon downhill as time goes on

**Rating:** 1.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Non-Profit Organization Management | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 24, 2023

**What do you like best about Act!?**

Good for basic contact management... tracking, updating, and recalling contacts and companies. Normal CRM-type needs are well met.

**What do you dislike about Act!?**

The cloud version that I use is sooooooo quirky and features randomly stop functioning for no apparent reason. I call your support team multiple times monthly and often multiple times weekly, mostly about quirky oddities.

**What problems is Act! solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Basic CRM is the real benefit to using Act! It's also relatively inexpensive, which is helpful for a small nonprofit managing under 1500 records.

**Official Response from Leslie Reynolds:**

> Thanks for sharing your feedback, and we’re sorry you’re experiencing a problem like this, we devote a lot of resources to Customer Success because we know it’s critical to our success. We hope you’ll give our Support team another try at https://www.act.com/resources/contact/ or call 866-873-2006.

  ### 6. Not intuitive and challenging to change

**Rating:** 0.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** J.R. D. | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 19, 2023

**What do you like best about Act!?**

It is compatible with DejaOffice and I like that.

**What do you dislike about Act!?**

Not intuitive and difficult for me to change.

**What problems is Act! solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It helps me keep a good record of accounts, their contact info, and notes about my visits.

**Official Response from Leslie Reynolds:**

> Thank you for sharing that Act! helps you track your accounts and related information. We are sorry to hear that you're having issues with personalizing (or customizing) Act! and hope you'll find the Customization resources on this page helpful. https://www.act.com/resources/how-to/

  ### 7. Run away from this program!! They will hold your information hostage

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Stuart L. | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 18, 2020

**What do you like best about Act!?**

It's easy to use other than that the company will screw you!

**What do you dislike about Act!?**

Anytime you have a problem the answer is ALWAYS to pay for the new version. The newer versions are emailed to you, they will NOT provide any physical form of the program. Thus when buying a new computer you MUST buy their newest version of the program even if you don't need it! Otherwise, all your information will be lost because they will not let you have a copy of the program you paid for. NEVER EVER USE the products from these thieves!!

**What problems is Act! solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The program keeps your client relationship information well. But if you switch computers you have to buy their new program. This company does everything in its power to screw its customers

  ### 8. FRUSTRATING

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** daniel a. | INNOVATION OFFICER, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 14, 2022

**What do you like best about Act!?**

THE ABILITY TO KEEP LONG DETAILES HISOTORY ON CONTACTS

**What do you dislike about Act!?**

CONSTANT CONFLICTS WITH WINDOWS AND NOT APPLE COMPATIBLE

**What problems is Act! solving and how is that benefiting you?**

NOT SOLVING ANYTHING

**Official Response from Leslie Reynolds:**

> Daniel, we’re sorry to hear that you’re not having a great experience right now. Would you please visit https://www.act.com/resources/contact/ or give us a call 866-873-2006 to see how we can provide some assistance? We look forward to speaking with you.

  ### 9. Frustration with ACT interfaces

**Rating:** 1.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** George W. | Director, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 10, 2022

**What do you like best about Act!?**

I have been using ACT! for over 20 years, mainly for sending emails to groups of colleagues and clients

**What do you dislike about Act!?**

Crashes,
Too complex to set up remote syncs
Poor interface with Gmail and Google calendar
Inability to make public and private access work - notwithstanding paying for professional consultant support

**What problems is Act! solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Managing groups of contacts
Intermittent ability to store emails against contacts

  ### 10. Not a happy bunny

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 02, 2020

**What do you like best about Act!?**

The idea of what ACT! can do.

In principle the idea is great, when actually implementing the software it fails to deliver at every step.

**What do you dislike about Act!?**

Nothing is easy, ACT! you can quite easily swallow days or even weeks of precious time with no return. Then when you are on the phone to tech support (they really do try there best) you get charged for the privilege. If you want a system that makes life easy for your business ACT! really isn't to one.

**Recommendations to others considering Act!:**

Dont do it

**What problems is Act! solving and how is that benefiting you?**

All our data is accessible via the cloud which is very useful

When working the marketing automation is really beneficial and the template designer helps make professional-looking emails super easy

  ### 11. The Death of Act so Sad

**Rating:** 1.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Kathy S. | Owner, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 02, 2021

**What do you like best about Act!?**

It has been my go-to contact service for decades

**What do you dislike about Act!?**

It has been toss from company to company and treated like a stepchild. Bugs that it had in it 15 years ago are still very prominent. I have to retire it, unfortunately.

**What problems is Act! solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The originators were very proud of this software and designed it to fit a customer service base with fantastic ease and flexibility

  ### 12. Outdated Software

**Rating:** 1.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Management Consulting | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 18, 2021

**What do you like best about Act!?**

Can handle massive amounts of contacts and does allow you to set reminders and meetings.

**What do you dislike about Act!?**

The user interface of Act is just extremely unfriendly and unattractive.

**Recommendations to others considering Act!:**

There are so many other alternatives that are just light years beyond act.

**What problems is Act! solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Being able to keep all of my contacts in one place and keep detailed notes on them. It has so many fields you can sort by. Think of Act like a semi advanced excel spreadsheet.

  ### 13. Stone Age CRM

**Rating:** 0.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Gregg C. | Owner/CEO, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 11, 2020

**What do you like best about Act!?**

There is not much I like about this program other than it is somewhat affordable for small to medium businesses. In the age of web based programs, Act is light years behind. The web version is extremely limited and not even worth using. The email marketing option is so cumberom and very user unfriendly.

**What do you dislike about Act!?**

This program has been sold many times since it was originally released. At this point, the support is awful and Swiftpage the new owner, constantly forces updates that break our database. We tired the marketing automation and that was even worse. If this CRM can survive, they need a complete overhaul.

**Recommendations to others considering Act!:**

Don't waste your time. Cross this program off you list.

**What problems is Act! solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We ceased using ACT and have just 1 license as a backup to our new CRM. This program did little to solve problems other than store data.

  ### 14. No continuity

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Building Materials | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 20, 2019

**What do you like best about Act!?**

This CRM is solid and has enough features for small to medium company.

**What do you dislike about Act!?**

Act and vendors take no responsibility for their actions and change of terms.
Dont keep the initial terms of lifetime licenses.
Have not successfully informed me about the change of conditions and therefore I lost 3 licenses. Both - the Act and their Authorized Saler take no responsibility for this situation.

**Recommendations to others considering Act!:**

the support is no existence.
Do not rely on vendors - they take no responsibility and don't forward essential info. Act take no responsibility for them as well.
I lost 3 LIFETIME?? licences and cant move the remaining licenses to another comp, because Act decided to change the pricing policy from lifetime?? license to monthly membership.
Who knows whats going to be next? 25$/month - maybe once they have enough users, in a year they will raise to 100$/mth and your company has no choice - hassle with changing crm or extremely increased costs.

**What problems is Act! solving and how is that benefiting you?**

CRM

  ### 15. Old School CRM Tool

**Rating:** 1.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Health, Wellness and Fitness | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 11, 2019

**What do you like best about Act!?**

Captures all of my client information - Contact, notes, address etc.

**What do you dislike about Act!?**

Not intuitive, difficult to navigate, crashes relatively often, will sometimes replace my notes with code for a short period of time. Lots of bugs.

**What problems is Act! solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Captures all of my client information - Contact, notes, address etc.

  ### 16. Awful system, complicated, and useless

**Rating:** 0.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Market Research | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 25, 2018

**What do you like best about Act!?**

Nothing at all, I disliked all the aspects about the program itself. Its robust, but not user friendly nor helpful. Installation is the worst part, we had to outsource IT to have this installed and we've never had to do this in the past for any program.

**What do you dislike about Act!?**

Everything! It was way too complex for its use.I disliked all the aspects about the program itself. Its robust, but not user friendly nor helpful. Installation is the worst part, we had to outsource IT to have this installed and we've never had to do this in the past for any program.

**Recommendations to others considering Act!:**

Dont, just dont! Worst client database program i've ever had to work with,

**What problems is Act! solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Client database and sales

  ### 17. Not user friendly, archaic design

**Rating:** 0.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Public Relations and Communications | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 18, 2018

**What do you like best about Act!?**

It provides me and my colleague with a collaborative foundation for our base of media contacts

**What do you dislike about Act!?**

It's incredibly dated and very frustrating to use. The design is not user friendly, and it takes new users quite a while to learn how to use. Would not reccomend.

**Recommendations to others considering Act!:**

I would honestly choose a different database software. It's been horrible to use, and the design is very dated.

**What problems is Act! solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It helps me to keep track of my company's database of media contacts, build media lists, and organize new business contacts

  ### 18. It's cheap and useable but archaic and ties into NOTHING but Outlook

**Rating:** 0.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Sarah V. | Email Marketing Manager, Marketing and Advertising, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 30, 2018

**What do you like best about Act!?**

It's cheap and you can use it as a database. It can be used for drip marketing a LITTLE but only for sending the emails and not recording email responses etc.
Chatting w/ the free support can be good or bad.

**What do you dislike about Act!?**

NO other tools, applications/program connect to Act! The support is in India and sometimes it's good and sometimes not. Because chat support is limited, you have to hire a Certified Act! consultant and there are very few. Really, there's like 5 and the certification doesn't guarantee much help. Once certified consultant was listed on the Act! website but was no longer practicing, another was highly unstable and damaging and the other was only helpful 1/3 of the time. No joke, our time was him talking about him being retired and related to Walt Disney. His support staff was his out of work son... Yikes!

**Recommendations to others considering Act!:**

Look around first. You can actually find cheaper and better BUT my boss was paranoid that info on the Cloud would be unsafe and would only use software. However, there really are better programs, just look

**What problems is Act! solving and how is that benefiting you?**

My poor office simply needed a database and sales/marketing tool for leads. Act! sufficed but barely. There's a reason VERY FEW companies use it anymore... Sorry

**Official Response from Jonathan Taylor:**

> Hi Sarah,

I'm reaching out to customers who've had issues in the past, and seeing if there's anyway I can help them to resolve longstanding issues.

If you're still experiencing problems, I'd love to help. Feel free to drop me an email at community@swiftpage.com.

Thanks for your time!

Jon,
Act! Social Media Team

  ### 19. Integration with Outlook doesn't work, and they won't fix it. Evaluating alternatives

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Craig J. | Private CEO Peer Advisory Board Group Chairman, Professional Training & Coaching, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** August 03, 2017

**What do you like best about Act!?**

Lookup feature, flexibility to custom fields, columns in list view, export to Excel

**What do you dislike about Act!?**

That they either refuse to fix or cannot fix a problem with basic functionality.

A CRM system is supposed to increase efficiency. ACT Pro succeeds in this in some ways, but fails in others due to bugs in the system. Key among these is the interface with Office and Outlook (ACT crashes every single time I try to create an e-mail from a template, or send an e-mail either to a single contact or to multiple contacts via mail merge. Furthermore, e-mails no longer attach to contacts when sent, and they no longer record in history.

And on a completely separate note, every single contact's LinkedIn profiles is, "oops".

And occasionally I get a pop up window which says, "Click here for updates." Clicking does nothing.

**Recommendations to others considering Act!:**

Listen to your users, many of whom - like me - will see be former users - and fix your damn product!

**What problems is Act! solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Operate more efficiently

**Official Response from Gary Woodhouse:**

> Hi Craig,
Thanks for taking the time to review Act! We're aware that some users are experiencing issues with Outlook integration at the moment when running the very latest version of Microsoft Office. We're working on a resolution to these issues as our top priority right now, and will release an update to address them as soon as we can.

Make sure you keep your Act! software up to date by downloading and installing updates from our Downloads Center: http://www.act.com/resources/downloads

  ### 20. Not so much

**Rating:** 1.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Health, Wellness and Fitness | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 09, 2018

**What do you like best about Act!?**

I have customized ACT! so that it works for me. I really appreciate using a CRM to help me stay in touch with my customers.

**What do you dislike about Act!?**

ACT! is a very old and out of date program. I don't use the new cloud program. ACT! has SO many problems that you really need to purchase the service agreement, because you will need tech support. Did outlook just do an update? Did Microsoft just do an update? Then ACT! will probably have a problem.

**Recommendations to others considering Act!:**

Don't. There are so many other programs out there. Every year, before my service contract is due, I look at all the other systems out there... For me, I have customized ACT! so much, and I want the program to reside on my hard drive, and I don't want to pay monthly, currently ACT! is the only program that fits that criteria. What are your needs? How much hassle are you willing to put up with. If there was another program out there, and I wouldn't lose a lot of my data converting, I would switch in a heart beat.

**What problems is Act! solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I have all my customer information in one place. I also have it backed up in 2 seperate clouds.I can create email lists/groups to segment my contacts. I keep notes of what we talked about, for the next call. I can set reminders of when to contact my customers next.

**Official Response from Jonathan Taylor:**

> I'm really sorry to hear that you've had technical issues! With the latest version, we've really focused on addressing bugs and issues that can interrupt workflow - especially when integrating with Microsoft Office!

It's great to hear that you're still with us, and we look forward to having the opportunity to change your opinion on the software!

  ### 21. Not the most user friendly salesforce- but gets the job done

**Rating:** 0.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Shannon E. | Key Account Manager, Computer Software, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 30, 2017

**What do you like best about Act!?**

I like the ability to see my daily task lists and to be able to view all my overdue tasks as well. It makes it really easy to see what I have to do in a day. You can filter it to display the data you need. ACT! and Microsoft have a great partnership so you can send emails from Microsoft and it appears in both. I also like how you can save contacts into this salesforce by clicking on a received email

**What do you dislike about Act!?**

I really dislike the format. The interface of this salesforce is not very inviting and all the colors are boring. It makes work feel more like work and the interface is very outdated. I don't really like the opportunity tabs, never really look at it. I like it better in salesforce where you can just change it to closed won.

**Recommendations to others considering Act!:**

I personally wouldn't recommend Act! While this may be a cheaper version of the options available to companies, it's interface and ease of use, is not up to standard. Some of the fields are hard to find- ie. For the add note function is hidden on the page as a tiny icon. Once you get used to the system, however, it works fine.

**What problems is Act! solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I am an account executive so I am adding new contacts and reaching out to old and new leads. The benefits of this salesforce is that we also use Microsoft for email and this integration helps me track my emails. It make sure I don't send the same email out twice.

**Official Response from Jonathan Taylor:**

> Hi Shannon,

Thanks for your valuable feedback. It's great that you made good use of the Outlook integration - it can be a really valuable tool.

It sounds like the User Interface and Layout didn't quite work out for you, which I'm really sorry to hear. Did you know that the most recent version of the software, v20, has a redesigned modern User Interface?

We've tried to make it easier to find and use the features that you use every single day.

Thanks again for the feedback, we're always looking for ways to continuing making Act! the best CRM solution for SMBs.

  ### 22. Older system with little Customization

**Rating:** 1.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Real Estate | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 10, 2018

**What do you like best about Act!?**

The contact system allows you to search and group people fairly easily

**What do you dislike about Act!?**

You cannot customize reports or fields for reports. A lot of the stuff like notes and history is terrible when needing to export or print lead sheets

**Recommendations to others considering Act!:**

They have outsourced much of their tech support overseas. Often this is challenging to get answers and information across as there is a language barrier/understanding. My biggest issue is the lack of field customization. You can create fields but the existing fields in the system are locked in when it comes to using their reporting features.

**What problems is Act! solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Was using it as a way to manage our sales leads

**Official Response from Jonathan Taylor:**

> Thanks for the review!

Customisation is a really big part of Act! and something that we really focus on making as easy as possible.

With the report designer, you can customise your reports however you need them - but I appreciate that there are a couple of limitations when it comes to core system fields.

If there's anything that we can do to help change your opinion of Act! please drop us a line!

  ### 23. Out dated software

**Rating:** 1.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Hospital & Health Care | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 09, 2018

**What do you like best about Act!?**

I guess if I had to like something it would be that you can slightly customize the database

**What do you dislike about Act!?**

It’s very antiquated and the support team isn’t great. My company has spent hours and hours trying to make this work for us but there are more problems than benefits especially considering how expensive it is.

**Recommendations to others considering Act!:**

Look at other options especially if you have a younger generation utilizing

**What problems is Act! solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We needed a CRM system and that switch alone has been a huge step but this is not the software for us.

  ### 24. You Get What you Pay For...

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jordan B. | Solutions Engineer, Information Technology and Services, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**What do you like best about Act!?**

There is absolutely nothing that I would say I like "best" about this product. It is truly a terrible CRM system. With that being said it's not awful if you know the company* and/or name (and it's complete correct spelling) of a person that you'd like to look up their phone number or email address. If I had to pick the best thing though it would be the price because it's very cheap compared to other CRM products. You are absolutely getting what you're paying for in this case.

**What do you dislike about Act!?**

I don't even know where to begin. Let's start at the user level since I am also an administrator of this product.
1) Old Clunky UX -- The User Interface and experience is a jump back to the early 90's and Sage has not put any resources into updating it since then. Even if you make your own interfaces for some of the contact screens the system will attempt to wedge them into a frame that never quite fits the way you'd expect it.
2) Searching -- The search functionality of ACT! does not support wildcard searching or fuzzy searching. This means that if you don't know the full spelling exactly of something you'll never find it. Additionally, the search function(s) require that you select what field of the entity (contact, company, task, etc) that you'd like to search. Technically, there is a global search, but it's very slow and still doesn't have wild card functionality.
3) Integrations -- ACT! comes with the "ability" to sync with Outlook (emails, contacts, and calendars), but it rarely works. It may work for a few days and then go out of sync. The built-in calendar will often duplicate items for almost no reason whatsoever. Outlook will also run very poorly when the sync is enabled for tracking of emails and synchronization of calendar/task items.
4) Installations - Now we're getting into the administration of this production. The installation of Act! loves to force users to install SQL Server on their local machines when it isn't required (unless the installation will be functioning as the Act! Server). This is a huge pain when you now need to then uninstall SQL Server from that machine, which would have caused it to slow to a snails pace on a sales person's laptop. Technically, you do need the local instance for performing synchronizations if a user will be off network, but a cloud based solution would be a far better offering. Lastly, in the realm of installations, there is little to no support in performing silent installs or pushing out with group policy.
5) Archaic Administration - Although this is a SQL Server based application it rarely allows you to actually perform maintenance on the database and utilize the scheduled tasks available in the rdbms. Instead you need to use their built-in tools that are kludgy at best with very little insight on what they are actually doing. Additionally, the administration and security features leave a lot more to be desired.
6) Support - The support of this product is terrible. They outsource most of the support to their Partners rather than the company doing any on their own. This leads to working with people that are trained very poorly and there is very little communication between representatives. Very often will you get 3 different answers on how to fix a problem, and none of them will be correct until you call back for the fourth time.

**Recommendations to others considering Act!:**

I would never recommend others to use act unless they are in a VERY small company (no more than 10 users, which may still be a bit too many) and cannot afford a better CRM system.

**What problems is Act! solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The standard business problem of tracking clients & contacts, sales leads, and managing resources. We have only realized the benefit of this CRM system in giving us an inexpensive centralized place to store this information, but at the most basic level possible.

  ### 25. The buggiest program I have ever used

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** John I. | Technical Services Specialist, Information Technology and Services, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 20, 2016

**What do you like best about Act!?**

It's ability to create merged customer information into email templates. Of course this is only possible if you open both Outlook and ACT! as an Administrator.

**What do you dislike about Act!?**

When connecting to a database on an internal network with a desktop it forces you to install a local SQL instance that you don't need. The add-in makes Outlook run slow and stops working about twice a month. I have another customer that can't send GTM invites through the meeting request. There is another person that has various calendar issues every week - items missing, items rolling over when they're not supposed to, fonts getting changed on their own.

**Recommendations to others considering Act!:**

Avoid at all cost !!
Get a Rolladex!!

**What problems is Act! solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The sales team uses it in conjunction with QuoteWerks to send quotes. It integrates with social media in an acceptable way.

**What do you like best about Act!?**

I like nothing. It used to be good around 2000. It was the best of its kind in fact.

**What do you dislike about Act!?**

They "update" the system once a month. When they do that it throws everything out of Whack. It takes 2-3 hours to fix with Indian tech support out of Chennai every month. Sometimes it takes 2-3 hours just to get someone on the phone. It's not cheap either. $420 per year. I give this company an F.

**What problems is Act! solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I help companies get more clients through Internet marketing

  ### 27. ACT Works But I Am Not A Fan

**Rating:** 1.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Patrick M. | Manager of Technical Services, Information Technology and Services, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 02, 2016

**What do you like best about Act!?**

ACT gives you a lot of the features of a good CRM, such as contact lists, company listings/linkings, integration with Outlook, email word processor, email templates, To Do Lists, Calendars, book appointments on behalf of other users, see other user's calendars, create groups, task lists, reports, dashboards, contact history, and allows integrations and pulling of data from many other software packages available on the market. For example, we use QuoteWerks for our quoting process and it nicely integrates with ACT to be able to pull contact information into a quote to quickly populate a client's name, address, email address, phone number, etc.

**What do you dislike about Act!?**

I have never been a big fan of ACT because I have always had problems with it. Many times I have issues where it crashes, or freezes, or the calendar integration with Outlook does not work correctly. We have even had problems in the past with it deleting items from people's calendars when trying to sync up! The bottom line is that I, at least personally, have always had problems with it. To me it has always been problematic and I have never liked using it. Unfortunately it is the CRM our Sales team uses and therefore I am forced to use it in order to align with the sales team and see their calendars, prospects, notes, and so on. Particularly the calendar sync with Outlook has also always been problematic for both me and other users.

**Recommendations to others considering Act!:**

Make sure to read a lot of people's reviews and get a good feel for what features you need and what features are problematic for other users.

**What problems is Act! solving and how is that benefiting you?**

As a CRM we use ACT to store all of our leads, prospects, clients, and it basically is the main storage system of all of our client contact data. I use it mainly to look up contact information for my clients and allows sales members to see my schedule and as well to see theirs.

  ### 28. If it's all you can afford...

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Ricky A. | Software Engineer, Information Technology and Services, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 17, 2016

**What do you like best about Act!?**

As a software engineer who's worked in the field of IT for over 12 years I can say that this software is, without a doubt, the least user-friendly application I've ever encountered. It took myself and another highly trained, Microsoft / Cisco certified IT professional 14+ hours to upgrade to next version of ACT for Desktop (on 10 user PCs) and update it with it's latest service pack. The upgrade process for ACT requires you to remove the previous version. Fine. However, the ACT uninstaller doesn't remove everything it should (registry keys and app-data folders abound). If the Protexis security service doesn't give you headaches over activating your copy of ACT you'll most likely run into a missing or corrupt COM error, and god forbid you intend to use this to sync with Outlook because Every time you change your password in ACT you will have to also change the password inside of the plugin's preferences and then re-sync the two applications. User's don't like being bothered, and ACT has a bad habit of getting in the way.

Negativity aside, you will have your own unique experiences with ACT. You may have 0 issues with it, or you might not be able to get it to run without IT support. Best of luck to you.

**What do you dislike about Act!?**

As an IT professional who is also a software engineer and works with the .NET framework I can get around ACT's blaring issues.... The rest of the folks I work with however, can't. Every year when we upgrade to the new version of ACT it's a circus. I figure with all the pain and suffering we've gone through the IT costs (not including ACT's licenses) might just make the case for us to move to Salesforce. Salesforce isn't cheap, but it works.

**Recommendations to others considering Act!:**

If you're going to use ACT then look to the future. ACT is moving most of their offerings to the cloud via a web-based version of their desktop application. At some point that might be an ok option if you want to use ACT. Although GG dev team, maybe code the interface/ whatever javascript or postback code you're using to be cross-browser compatible. It's nice when you get the latest version of Act for Web, and using FireFox you encounter a message telling you "The browser you are using is not supported". It's 2016... not compatible with FireFox. ok.

**What problems is Act! solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It is a large rolodex of contact information, and weak relationship manager. It allows us to store contact info with custom fields and link contacts to a company object.

  ### 29. Somewhat flexible but quite frustrating

**Rating:** 1.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Nathan P. | Assistant to Office Manager, Financial Services, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 06, 2016

**What do you like best about Act!?**

The software is relatively easy to navigate, but falls flat in modification.

the user interface is mostly simple to navigate. Top navigation works fine for switching between contacts and companies - those of which propagate each other pretty consistently.

The organization of information is clearly stated on the left toolbar.

Adjusting search queries as well, has enough options for cross value comparisons.

Opportunity function and dashboard reporting seems to have potential but i have yet to try them out.

**What do you dislike about Act!?**

I don't have much experience with CRM software but ACT! feels dated - we are currently using version 17 - from what I can tell, version 18 (cloud based) looks much sleeker and user friendly.

Biggest complaint is the inability to calculate fields from other calculated fields - this much needed feature greatly reduces the benefits of the CRM.

Supposedly there are "tons" of add-ons to beef up the software, but most are paid and bundled with unneeded features

**Recommendations to others considering Act!:**

I would not recommend this product - if you do have to use it - take the time figuring out their import / export functions

**What problems is Act! solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The software is current;y used for sales team prospecting management.

We are a small team, but must handle thousands of prospects.

The system has been set up and works as intended mostly. We are still working on full implementations within the full workflow.

I do not wish to continue using this product - but will make do

**What do you like best about Act!?**

The trickle down system from Companies to Contacts

**What do you dislike about Act!?**

The interface. With the world of smartphones- ACT feels like I am looking at a computer program from 2000

**What problems is Act! solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It is nice to print "activities reports" instead of sending my director word typed summaries.

**Official Response from Gary Woodhouse:**

> Thanks for sharing your feedback.

A refresh of our desktop application interface is currently on the roadmap. We recently experimented with an updated web user interface for Act!, and we'll be taking lessons we learned from this and applying them to the desktop interface in our future development efforts.

Did you know Act! also has a native smartphone app, where you can see your contact information in a more mobile, and on-the-go inspired interface?

  ### 31. Major bugs and poor customer support

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Rafe E. | SVP, Real Estate, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 02, 2016

**What do you like best about Act!?**

I have been a dedicated user since 1999. It is better than outlook for tracking events and customers. I do not use any of the social media features btw.

**What do you dislike about Act!?**

ACT Pro simply does not work with Windows 10. Activities do not roll. Outlook email does not integrate at all. Customer support offered a knowledge base article on the first problem with two fixes. One was for beginners and did not work. The other referenced menus and options that do not exist. Customer support did take over my pc remotely and caused my activities to roll - once. They have ignored my followup requests ever since.

**Recommendations to others considering Act!:**

Too buggy to consider right now. It just does not work with Windows 10.

**What problems is Act! solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It is a good program when it works - tracking many customers, clients, meetings calls and projects is easy using ACT. Their integration with outlook and google doesn't work well. I use companion link, a third party program, to sync with my android calendar.

**What do you like best about Act!?**

I have been with Act! for nearly 15 years and I have finally had it!!!! Who doesn't have an interface for Apple these days? Who doesn't have an App to access their site? I have tried to integrate to Google since their upgrade three weeks ago, on three different computers and still no success. The wait times on hold are ludicrous this whole company is a joke! I am in silicon valley and know how technology works, no one cares about being up to-date or current at Act! They don't care about the customer experience with hours of wait times or care about doing what they say they are going to do!!! It's been over a week since they said they would call me back on a problem I had that they said is an issue on their end!!!

**What do you dislike about Act!?**

I have never written a review before but.....Where do I begin with what I don't like???? I have the Cloud Premium, what a joke, the word "premium" is, there is nothing premium about their technical support HOLD TIMES in access of TWO HOURS!!! I am self employed and waiting on hold or paying my assistant to do so, cost a fortune in down time!!! The program in archaic and my engineer husband has been telling me to dump Act for over a decade but did I listen? NOOOOO and I am paying dearly for not taking his advise!!

**What problems is Act! solving and how is that benefiting you?**

NONE!!!

  ### 33. Approach with caution - think seriously about committing to ACT since Swiftpage purchased it.

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**What do you like best about Act!?**

I have years of invested use and customization. So, I like that I am familiar with how to customize it to fit my business.

**What do you dislike about Act!?**

The support is difficult to get, long waits, and not always correct.

**Recommendations to others considering Act!:**

Don't do it unless you hear that their Support went from a one to a 10. The person in charge of their Support is either incompetent or does not care. They seem to care more about 1) Getting monthly commitments for fees and 2) Releasing new versions probably to help insure renewals and monthly commitments from users.

**What problems is Act! solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Manages sales activity for remote sales agents.

**What do you like best about Act!?**

It used to be a perfect program. Alas, no more.

**What do you dislike about Act!?**

I've used ACT religiously for the last 10 years. It used to be a wonderful product. I recently switched to the cloud based version. My first question to the sales person at Swiftpage was, "How fast is it?" She assured me it was much faster than the trial software they let you try. After I paid for a year's subscription and downloaded the software it turned out it was much worse. Unbelievably, Swiftpage would not refund my money and switch me to a desktop based version. When I say slow, I don't me a little slow, I mean unworkably slow. Put it this way, I'm currently trying to look up one of my clients in the database. I've written this review in that time and it still hasn't located the record. Avoid at all cost!!!

**Recommendations to others considering Act!:**

I don't have one. I hope someone at ACT gets the message and improves the product.

**What problems is Act! solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I've run my business with this software for more than a decade. I am now switching.

I like the price and that about it at this point in time.

**What do you dislike about Act!?**

The customer support is the worst. I called to cancel today after less than a week buying a subscription.

**Recommendations to others considering Act!:**

There support sucks so unless you are a tech savy person, try another program.

**What problems is Act! solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I have not been able to solve anything yet. I cant get support on the phone long to get outlook integrated with Act so that I can set up my calendar.
The service sucks!!

**Rating:** 1.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Erich R. | Co-founder & CSO, Internet, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 26, 2012

**What do you like best about Act!?**

Sage is a solid starter CRM that allows you to many of the basic things you would want in CRM tool. It's a desktop offering, however, with limited integration to web services. It's pretty solid on Windows, I'm not sure on Mac. The tool is also simple enough that an in-house team could set it up if necessary.

**What do you dislike about Act!?**

It's not a SasS offering, and has limited integration capabilities beyond Outlook and a few other services. I would not recommend this product to anyone who is looking to scale beyond a few users.

**Recommendations to others considering Act!:**

I would strongly consider a SaaS offering. However, if you're looking for a desktop offering, this is a pretty decent tool.
