## Act-On Reviews
  ### 1. Seriously. Don't do this to yourself and your company.

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 14, 2020

**What do you like best about Act-On?**

Email capabilities are ok. The automated programs allow to create workarounds to solve the system's issues.

**What do you dislike about Act-On?**

ABM simply does not work and is not native. We have been working on solving bugs on a CRM integration for 1 year and still not working (MSDynamics). Email and landing page builder is rudimental and not worth this price point. Reporting is powerful and can deliver unuseful csv files that makes up for the poor/non existing reporting capablities on the frontend. Web reporting, Social media, paid search, website prospector and SEO audit reports are poorly developed, and surely not by a PO who knows mkt buyer personas. Basic conversion attribution is not even mentioned in the features. Every feature involving CRM has to be developed and configured from scratch. Last but not least the support and customer success: Bad communication, lack of transparency gave us a real hard time with Act-on.

**What problems is Act-On solving and how is that benefiting you?**

None that I coulnd't solve a lot better and cheaper in terms of price and own resources with other tools out there. It has been a torture.

  ### 2. Overly complicated, need workarounds for everything

**Rating:** 0.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Sara T. | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 12, 2020

**What do you like best about Act-On?**

Honestly, I don't like any aspect of working in this tool.

**What do you dislike about Act-On?**

It is not intuitive, and everything is overly complicated. Particularly in the list management and automation areas, it's very different than most ESPs. There are inconsistencies in UI all over the place, and the simplest things, like double scroll bars, that create a negative customer experience are rampant. It uses something called "Stationery" instead of a template system that most email marketers are accustomed to, and you can only create it by fully writing the code from scratch. There is zero documentation on their stationary language, like you would find with other ESPs like MailChimp.

After 2+ years in this tool, I can safely say that projects take three times as long to execute in Act-On as they would in other systems. Email Marketers, save your sanity. Do not use this product. They claimed to be rolling out lots of updates to create a better UX in 2019 and 2020, but none of the updates have made any effectual difference, in my experience.

**Recommendations to others considering Act-On:**

Do not choose this tool. The user experience is so painful. I find myself frustrated with something new almost daily. There are much better options out there.

**What problems is Act-On solving and how is that benefiting you?**

None. This tool creates more problems than it solves. I primarily use it to execute promotional and automated email campaigns, hosting gated content and hosting forms. I use the connectors to sync customer data from external POS and CRM databases. I've realized no benefits, compared to other tools.

  ### 3. Inflexible, Lack of Follow Up and Not Quite Ready for the Big League

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Entertainment | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 15, 2020

**What do you like best about Act-On?**

I was able to build an email pretty quickly with little knowledge of the system. Reporting would be great if I didn't need to remember to refresh the date range every time I logged in.

**What do you dislike about Act-On?**

Our team repeatedly has had to chase down support answers. Features didn't exist that needed to for us, including an issue with http on pages (in 2020), and the lack of the ability to track multiple domains.

**What problems is Act-On solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We are currently using Act-On to communicate with clients but without the multi-domain tracking feature, the tool really doesn't work for us as it needs to.

  ### 4. truly the worst crm i've ever used

**Rating:** 1.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Financial Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 16, 2020

**What do you like best about Act-On?**

literally nothing. not 1 redeeming feature

**What do you dislike about Act-On?**

quite ugly. works terrible. no features.

**What problems is Act-On solving and how is that benefiting you?**

literally none. the only benefit i realized is that act-on is rock bottom and no crm will ever be worse.

  ### 5. Hero to Zero

**Rating:** 0.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Mark T. | Marketing Consultant | On-Demand Fractional CMO, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 27, 2015

**What do you like best about Act-On?**

The newer functionality (landing page) is easy to use, however the rest of the system is old and needs bringing in line, other solutions are much more refined, significant Product Updates are via Powerpoint pipe dreams only.

**What do you dislike about Act-On?**

The product hasn't had any significant updates for a long time, despite making a large number of their team redundant and replacing with developers.

Act-On promise through slideware, but never deliver them. Most recent is Send Time Optimisation, which took so long to go to market that competitors had copied the idea and launched it quicker. The UI is completely inconsistent and the email marketing tool (a core tool) hasn't had an update in over 3.5 years. Support has also gone downhill over the last year.

I raised 1 Email rendering problem over 3 years ago, despite them accepting the issue and ongoing chasing they still haven't fixed it.

**Recommendations to others considering Act-On:**

Try to get Act-On to commit to delivering against their roadmap (they wont).

**What problems is Act-On solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Number of leads we are generating, however the depth of the Microsoft Dynamics integration doesn't enable full analysis.

  ### 6. Cheaper and more reliable options out there

**Rating:** 0.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Non-Profit Organization Management | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 14, 2019

**What do you like best about Act-On?**

It's fairly easy to use. It's old-school but that makes it predictable for the most part.

**What do you dislike about Act-On?**

It's expensive, outdated and unreliable. We often have issues with forms working properly so we've had lead metric issues and poor CS to those lost leads. The look of the landing pages is antiquated, and dynamic campaigns are not easy to track.

**Recommendations to others considering Act-On:**

Consider literally any other resource besides Act-On because you will save money and troubleshooting time in the long run.

**What problems is Act-On solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Act-On was our solution when we couldn't afford to update our Salesforce instance, and to accommodate our various types of customer audiences/messaging.

  ### 7. Easy to Use, Lacking Support

**Rating:** 0.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Sporting Goods | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 08, 2019

**What do you like best about Act-On?**

The platform is fairly intuitive, even for an entry level email marketer. It's easy to set up triggers and workflows, A/B Tests, etc.

**What do you dislike about Act-On?**

There is so much turnover and lack of support services. If you have an urgent request, it may be days before you hear from someone, if at all.
Personalization is nearly impossible with this platform. They have made no advances to make this platform anything other than a batch-and-blast email service.

**What problems is Act-On solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We were able to integrate with Salesforce in order to create workflows that included touches from our sales personnel.

  ### 8. A masterclass in how not to run a business

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Thomas S. | Contributor, Investment Banking, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 05, 2019

**What do you like best about Act-On?**

Act-On allows you to create nicely designed emails. Deliverability is generally good.

**What do you dislike about Act-On?**

While using the product, was contacted multiple times by "Act-On" partners which we did not opt into. Act-On did address and remove some partners when flagged, but I have never experienced this with other similar products. The emails were constant and all specific to Act-On.

The main issue with the product is that Act-On creates dynamic links in every email (that they host) which means as soon as you cancel (we used the product for all of 2018) emails sent in the period paid for do *not* work. The only solution we were provided with was renewing. Our account manager "Stuart N" (I have not included his surname) was patronizing, unhelpful and escalated a junior marketing executive in our team to their legal department when flagging the technical issue.

In order to demonstrate the issues we had, will use an example of another SaaS product we use, Adobe:

-	We subscribe to Adobe Creative Suite (for around $100/month)
-	I create and send a Holiday Card PDF on December 25 2018 with links
-	I cancel my subscription with Adobe
-	On January 2nd, you read the email and open the PDF
-	The links would still be functional, as would the PDF, that I created using their premium product

Using Act-On:

-	I subscribe to Act-On at a 5 figure cost for the year
-	I create and send a Holiday Card email on December 25 2018 with links
-	I cancel my subscription with Act-On
-	On January 2nd, you read the email and click the link to read more
-	The links are *no longer* functional

With both products, I cannot create/send/do anything new but that is fine as my subscription has now elapsed.

The legal department refused to resolve our issue and suggested we renew at a 5 figure cost for the year to fix our issue. They also encouraged me to share this honest review here, including only facts.

-	We paid for the product in 2018 to send emails
-	We cancelled for 2019
-	Emails sent and paid for in 2018 no longer work
-	During 2018, we received multiple, unsolicited communications from Act-On partners
-	A junior Marketing Associate from my team reached out to correct this error to a “Senior Manager” at Act-On
-	The Senior Manager, "Stuart N" offered a short term fix or a long term fix with a further 5 figure commitment
-	The Senior Manager escalated a complaint from a junior Marketing Associate to the legal department
-	Act-On legal department referred me to an example of Adobe, which as proven above does not do the what they claim (i.e. losing previous functionality).

As a company, we invest 6 figures a year into various software subscriptions. This is the worst experience I have had - there is effectively no way to cancel if you want emails sent previously to work. The sales team are pushy - it is borderline predatory for a Senior Manager to provide a junior member of a client's team a single solution: renewal. When the junior member of the team did not accept this answer - she was escalated to the legal department at Act-On.

I do not believe that the team who created this product intended to create a situation where a client cannot cancel and retain functionality from previously sent emails during the subscription period. This seems to be a move of putting revenue before the customer, a common side effect of raising funding.

**Recommendations to others considering Act-On:**

Do not use links in emails if you ever want to cancel.

**What problems is Act-On solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The product has created more problems than it has solved for us, hence cancelling. We mostly moved from our previous ESP as Act-On had better email analytics, but that does not outweigh the fundamental technical challenges.

  ### 9. Frustrating for robust automation

**Rating:** 1.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 21, 2018

**What do you like best about Act-On?**

Although not an intuitive software, it is not difficult to figure out how to use. Creating emails is overall very easy, and some features of the automated programs are good like having early exit rules.

**What do you dislike about Act-On?**

You cannot search for lists - anytime we set an email or program up we have to scroll forever to find the correct lists. Emails are glitchy - we'll have the exact same HTML in 2 emails and have it look completely different. We've had experiences with emails being scheduled and then just not send - no one on the support team could tell us why.

**What problems is Act-On solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We attempted to solve for marketing automation along with automating follow-ups for our support and training services. We were able to solve these problems but we had to do a ton of work-arounds to get the program working how we needed it. So, while it saves time in the long run once we get a program set-up properly, the frustration of getting there is huge and the wasted time going back and forth trying to solve for weird glitches is not worth it.

  ### 10. Avoid like the plague - other much better solutions available.

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** George C. | Marketing professional, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 25, 2019

**What do you like best about Act-On?**

There is little to like. Old, outdated, terrible customer service from a company that appears to be struggling. We moved on to another solution that had 4 times the capabilities and ease of use for not much more cost.

**What do you dislike about Act-On?**

The whole time we used it there were no upgrades. It's like an interface from Windows 95. Support was spotty at times. Certain features were so poorly implemented that even our rep from Act-On suggested not using them.

**Recommendations to others considering Act-On:**

Avoid. There are much better solutions available for a similar price. The Act-On interface looks like it Windows 95. They made no improvements in the whole time we were customers. Terrible UX.

**What problems is Act-On solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Marketing automation, inbound and outbound.

  ### 11. act-on

**Rating:** 0.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Apparel & Fashion | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 16, 2019

**What do you like best about Act-On?**

certain reports were easy to pull. but then if you wanted to drill down, it becomes very manual

**What do you dislike about Act-On?**

lots of things. reporting was clunky, marketing automation campaigns were not easy to set up. it is also VERY expensive as compared to mail chimp and constant contact

**What problems is Act-On solving and how is that benefiting you?**

no real benefits. switched from platform to mail chimp

  ### 12. Overpriced, Under Powered, Under Serviced

**Rating:** 1.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 14, 2018

**What do you like best about Act-On?**

List imports and overall set up was easy enough to get going.

**What do you dislike about Act-On?**

The sales and services team kept insisting that we pay for another 6 months even after we terminated the contract (according to the terms). Very negative experience with their sales and services teams. Could rarely get an expert on line or on the phone for support. Integrations with analytics were buggy. Mis-reporting on deliverability, opens, CTR etc were a constant frustration (e.g. numbers did not add up from reporting to campaigns). Landing page tool was clunky and looked bad. SFDC integration was always problematic. Heuristics were a pain to define / tune and automation for anything other than sending emails was nearly non-existent.

**Recommendations to others considering Act-On:**

avoid.

**What problems is Act-On solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Marketing Automation, landing page, email marketing, prospect scoring, engagement tracking.

  ### 13. BI users, stay away

**Rating:** 0.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Nathan C. | IT Business Analyst, Mining & Metals, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 15, 2018

**What do you like best about Act-On?**

It has all the essential capabilities and is fairly user friendly.

**What do you dislike about Act-On?**

API and Data Studio are in credibly limited in the data offerings. If you have any intention of trying to connect to a BI / analytics platform, you're going to want to look at other platforms.

**Recommendations to others considering Act-On:**

Will not work properly with BI platforms due to limits in API / data extraction.

**What problems is Act-On solving and how is that benefiting you?**

This was our first MA platform. We learned a lot about what MA can do, but we have outgrown this particular platform due to it's data extraction limitations.

  ### 14. Needs refinement

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Biotechnology | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 31, 2019

**What do you like best about Act-On?**

Can have a list of email domains to always exclude from all emails

**What do you dislike about Act-On?**

Their reporting features did not work well. Were bulky and often had to combine multiple reports to get what you wanted.

**Recommendations to others considering Act-On:**

Do a true evaluation of this before you sign on.

**What problems is Act-On solving and how is that benefiting you?**

None. Have gotten rid of it.

  ### 15. Can't get the benefits that were promised

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Electrical/Electronic Manufacturing | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 05, 2018

**What do you like best about Act-On?**

I like the idea of how marketing automation can help nurture leads into sales. I like the idea that the right software can help take the load off our sales guys and help them focus on selling rather than researching and sifting through unqualified leads.

**What do you dislike about Act-On?**

I don't like the technical support. I don't like that it has been 6 months and the system is still not fully configured. It's been too time consuming and I realize our money and time could have been better spent elsewhere. They made a lot of promises about how they have a top notch on-boarding process and how new users are well supported. Most questions they just refer you to watch a video, but half the time the video doesn't answer the question. The videos have become tedious and pointless.
Much of the problem is it doesn't work great with Dynamics 365, we've never gotten the hot prospects or dashboard to work. I think its better integrated with Salesforce

**Recommendations to others considering Act-On:**

If I could go back in time, I would tell myself to pass on this.

**What problems is Act-On solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Our goal was to be able to identify the unknown prospects that were visiting our site and to keep our sales force informed. Unfortunately we've been trying to get this thing to work for months and its not paying for itself. Pretty much zero ROI at this point.

  ### 16. Customer Service is a bust

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Internet | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** April 25, 2018

**What do you like best about Act-On?**

I like the ease of posting landing pages and putting together marketing emails. Very straightforward UX.

**What do you dislike about Act-On?**

Customer service is TERRIBLE! I called in ~10am & left a voicemail, it'd been over 24 hours and I had not received a callback. I finally decided to bite the bullet and stay on hold (our contact-us page was not syncing to SFDC). After only 30 minutes I get to someone. After an hour of walking through SFDC and Act-On, the rep came to the conclusion that there was no fix. Once off the phone, I spent time on message boards and figured it out. -- Lastly, the UX is really smooth because of how simple it is aka VERY limited design templates.

**What problems is Act-On solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We're staying in touch with our community. It's an easy way to stay in touch and send out announcements.

  ### 17. Poor customer support with bad product performance

**Rating:** 0.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Maya R. | Vice President of Marketing, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 20, 2017

**What do you like best about Act-On?**

My company has been using Act-On for almost 3 years growing from a few dozens leads a month to hundreds. During this time I have tested almost all of Act-On functionality.
They offers very basic marketing automation capabilities: online forms, sending email, tracking known and anonymous visitors and lead score. Everythings else is only on paper and is not working well enough to provide value.

**What do you dislike about Act-On?**

1) Integration - #1 issue when growing with Act-on. Majority of tools do not offer integration with Act-On and even the few that do - it's not a native integration to forms, but to lists (due to type of APIs they are offering) which reduces your capabilities significantly and reduce efficiency. Even their native integration (GoToWebinar for example) are not perfect. They provide zero support and have provided us suggestions for workarounds that have only wasted our time and have not solve the issue.

2) My experience with Act-On has been painful from almost day one and mostly due to their horrible customer support. They keep moving you from one person to another. Customer success managers change every few months, usually without telling you. Their support 'engineers' proficiency is very low and availability of calls is usually one week.
3) Almost all features are half-baked from reporting to social media, automated programs, landing pages and many more. It seems like they just want to check a checkbox and not really provide value to their customers.
They solely rely on the understand the replacing a marketing automation system is a hard process which requires many resources.

**Recommendations to others considering Act-On:**

Choose a different vendor

**What problems is Act-On solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It offers basic marketing automation capabilities, but when choosing a marketing automation platform you need to remember that transition cost is high and you need to find a long-term solution. I highly doubt it Act-On can be the right fit for any company regardless of size and focus.

  ### 18. Horrible!

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Construction | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 12, 2018

**What do you like best about Act-On?**

I do not have anything positive to report.

**What do you dislike about Act-On?**

We were sold a one year contract full of promises that ActOn would be the solution for us. Quickly after having access to the system, many modules failed to meet our needs and key features that were important to us were subsequently removed. After many communications with the Act On team, we have yet to receive a refund or any explanation. Unfortunately for us, Act On was NOT a viable solution.

**What problems is Act-On solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We needed a system to help with leads, email automation, and social media management within a single platform. I was not the primary user that set the system up, so my knowledge is limited outside of the fact that we paid a 5-figure check to Act-On for a system we have abandoned altogether because it failed to met our requirements.

  ### 19. Not impressed

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 10, 2018

**What do you like best about Act-On?**

There hasn't been anything about this application that stands out.

**What do you dislike about Act-On?**

I dislike the applications lack of functionality. It pales in comparison to Pardot.

**Recommendations to others considering Act-On:**

Try Pardot if you are using Salesforce

**What problems is Act-On solving and how is that benefiting you?**

This software was put in place before I came to work at this particular business and was purchased by a marketing director who had never been in marketing.

  ### 20. Former Act-On User, Moved to other Marketing Automation platform

**Rating:** 0.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Jack P. | Senior Vice President, Mechanical or Industrial Engineering, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** October 18, 2017

**What do you like best about Act-On?**

Act-On is very inexpensive and relatively easy to use.

**What do you dislike about Act-On?**

Extremely high turnover of client facing personnel. in the 2 years we used the application, we had no less than 5 sales/CSM personnel work our account, as people were constantly leaving the company. The user interface was very basic and felt cheap, which was a review I saw before selecting Act-On, but became more apparent when looking at other options after our negative customer experience.

**Recommendations to others considering Act-On:**

Really consider what you value. Act-On lists pricing very similar to other Marketing Automation softwares, but they will offer deep discounting to get your business. When we emailed the same prospects in Act-On and Pardot we had much different delivery rates, so the reputation of Act-On's IP addresses was suspect. They may have improved that, but it is definitely a point to ask about.

**What problems is Act-On solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We were able to track and engage customers with emails, website and social media content and aggregate that into a single engagement view of the customer.

  ### 21. Gets the job done

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** February 08, 2018

**What do you like best about Act-On?**

The best thing about Act-on is their support and customer service.

**What do you dislike about Act-On?**

It is not a easy to use software, the social publish is horrible. The beta stuff is really hard to use, the forms are hard to create. the landing pages and email design tools are both so different and really difficult to understand. even changing the text is hard.

**Recommendations to others considering Act-On:**

I do not recommend it. I recommend competitors like Marketo.

**What problems is Act-On solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Email marketing and tracking our website. benefit was Sugar integration but that went down for almost 2 months !

I like the graphical reporting. It's not hard to use as it is fairly intuitive.

**What do you dislike about Act-On?**

terrible product and god awful suport, lacks essential functionality, a terrible, terrible product my organization rues we purchaed

**Recommendations to others considering Act-On:**

Do NOT do it!

**What problems is Act-On solving and how is that benefiting you?**

  ### 23. Just not doing it

**Rating:** 0.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 11, 2017

**What do you like best about Act-On?**

Don't care for any element of Act-On. Primitive tool, poor customer support.

**What do you dislike about Act-On?**

1 - Customer support is a difficult frustrating slog
2 - Lack of aggressive customer roadmap
3 - Tool is lacking in a number of areas from a functionality and depth perspective

**Recommendations to others considering Act-On:**

Take a real close look at Act-On and be sure to compare other vendors depth and breadth of functionality and check references.

**What problems is Act-On solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Act-On is creating more problems that it is solving quite honestly.

  ### 24. act away from act on

**Reviewed Date:** April 30, 2018

**What do you like best about Act-On?**

its cheap, it in theory can do some things

**What do you dislike about Act-On?**

everything, its horrible, you have to hire an consultant b/c its not remotely intuitive

**Recommendations to others considering Act-On:**

dont.

**What problems is Act-On solving and how is that benefiting you?**

some kind of analytics, sending out emails, marketing automation

  ### 25. All About Getting You on a Contract and Making it Painful to Get Off

**Rating:** 0.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 21, 2017

**What do you like best about Act-On?**

It works, just Ok. Pretty basic marketing automation but no cadence management or any other advanced tools.

**What do you dislike about Act-On?**

You will never get out of their contract whether it is legitimate or not. We signed an change order that stated our contract term would not be extended. They used serious intimidation tactics about court proceedings etc. until in the end they conceded knowing they had no right to pursue, opting to cancel our agreement within the contract period and within their agreement terms. Wasted a lot of our time. This is just one of their tactics, they tried a few others.

**Recommendations to others considering Act-On:**

Recommend you put your cancellation notice in they day you sign up, then when your contract term ends renegotiate, otherwise, they are going to take advantage of you.

**What problems is Act-On solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Marketing automation.

  ### 26. Terrible company to work with if you're a small/medium business

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Consumer Goods | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 07, 2017

**What do you like best about Act-On?**

Nothing at all. System has terrible UX, difficult to navigate, and their business practices and billing are poor to say the least.

**What do you dislike about Act-On?**

Read the contract carefully. They include an auto-renewal clause that is non-cancelable. They will not notify you at all when the contract renewal is coming up and automatically lock you into a full year which they won't let you cancel. As a small business testing out systems this is horrible. They should at least notify customers of upcoming renewals. We had stopped using the software as months before and forgot about it until we starting seeing $3k charges to the company. When we tried to cancel they refused and sent the account to a collection agency...well done Act-on. Any world class software company doesn't try to trick clients into sticking with them. Provide a valuable service and clients will gladly stick with you.....when Adobe, Microsoft, and Google all allow you to adjust subscriptions and drop subscriptions to services not being used at any time.

**Recommendations to others considering Act-On:**

Look at other solutions that don't do auto-renewal without notification and lock you into annual subscriptions.

**What problems is Act-On solving and how is that benefiting you?**

No benefits at all. Spent thousands of dollars, a ton of hours, and saw no effect on the business. Their tracking of website visits tells you very little...99% will be ISP providers...great ATT, comcast, Turner came to the site...

  ### 27. Not as user-friendly as other MATs available.

**Rating:** 1.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Clara E. | Marketing Manager, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 05, 2017

**What do you like best about Act-On?**

Does do campaign tracking well. I have been pleased with the information I can glean from the campaigns I have sent through ActOn

**What do you dislike about Act-On?**

Not intuitive or logically laid out in my opinion

**What problems is Act-On solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Streamlining campaign reporting

  ### 28. Act-On Could Care Less About Their Customers

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Alan Y. | CEO, Security and Investigations, Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** December 11, 2016

**What do you like best about Act-On?**

Nothing. We have been charged for this software for nearly 8 months and it has never worked. We have had MULTIPLE calls and have told them about this and nothing has happened. They continue to charge us monthly for a software system that has NEVER WORKED. I absolutely hate this company. If they gave a crap about actually serving us, I might feel different. As it is, all they care about is charging us monthly.

**What do you dislike about Act-On?**

EVERYTHING. The software has never worked for us. They never on-boarded us and yet continued to charge us monthly for software that has never worked. Proceed with caution before working with this company!

**Recommendations to others considering Act-On:**

DON'T DO IT!. They will make you promises, lock you into a long-term contract and not perform. They will not try to solve your problems. They will simply continue to charge you for work that they NEVER do. 12 years in business and this is the worst software experience that I have ever had.

**What problems is Act-On solving and how is that benefiting you?**

I have realized zero benefits. Their marketing was great and they brought us in and conned us into a year-long contract. They never on-boarded us and never actually got the software working.

  ### 29. Definitely not Enterprise grade

**Rating:** 1.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Marketing and Advertising | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 14, 2017

**What do you like best about Act-On?**

The Email automation programs work pretty well but it's serverely lacking in the landing page and email design aspects. Also reporting is nearly non existent.

**What do you dislike about Act-On?**

The program lags constantly, the UI is pretty bad.

**What problems is Act-On solving and how is that benefiting you?**

It's useful to track known website visitors and give alerts.

  ### 30. Constant upset. Intentional deception regarding contracts. Broke integral features. Shifts blame.

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in E-Learning | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** June 17, 2016

**What do you like best about Act-On?**

The ability to replace previously uploaded files without changing the link.

**What do you dislike about Act-On?**

Initial experience was ok. Email editor is very limited and building your own custom email templates is unnecessarily difficult. Using the system for over a year and finding out something simple we wanted to do was there the whole time, but we weren't trained at all. Time came for discussing renewing the contract and we asked for specific numbers and answers were vague but assured the price change was minimal. Asked is $X,X00/month was the increase, told yes. Come to find out, we were moved from our annual contract to a 3-year extension with an increase of nearly 5x/month. Through all of this, Progressive Profiling (a feature that was a large selling feature for us and integrated throughout all of the forms on our site) broke due to something they did on the backend. We contacted support, we told it was a small issue would be fixed. This continued on for several months until we were told they don't know how to fix it and it was broken. What started as a serviceable relationship has quickly spiraled into a nightmare.

**Recommendations to others considering Act-On:**

Avoid like the plague. Their concern for the customer is minimal. Their goal is to bleed as much money out of you for as long as they can before you leave.

**What problems is Act-On solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Marketing automation with emails and resource delivery as well as integration with Salesforce.

**Official Response from Paige Musto, MBA:**

> Hello there, this is Paige Musto from Act-On's corporate communications department. I wanted to reach out to you to see how I might be able to address your concerns and/or escalate them up the chain of commands. I'm sorry that this is your current experience - our customers are our most important asset and it would never be our intention to upset, blame or deceive you - that is contrary to our beliefs as a customer-centric organization.

Please email me at paige@act-on.com as I'd like to take a closer look at this account, and plan to speak with the internal parties involved.

  ### 31. Don't use: use something you can grow with instead

**Rating:** 0.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 10, 2016

**What do you like best about Act-On?**

the email tool was intuative, but so are many others. I like the agency that introduced it, but i wish they would have warned me of the limitations.

**What do you dislike about Act-On?**

I was constantly asking the tool to do something it couldn't do. Workflows were very basic and I relied on my agency team to do a lot of the work because we had to zapier integration to get a lot done.

**Recommendations to others considering Act-On:**

look at other tools, even if they're more expensive. Hubspot, sharpspring etc.

**What problems is Act-On solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We had a serious lack of follow up and tracking, we were able to get customers and prospects bucketed for marketing purposes, but that's about it.

  ### 32. Limited Responsive Design

**Rating:** 0.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Utilities | Enterprise (> 1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** January 24, 2017

**What do you like best about Act-On?**

Easy to use and the landing pages are simple to put together

**What do you dislike about Act-On?**

Limited Responsive Design for Emails and limited templates.

**What problems is Act-On solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Lead Generation. Limited benefits from ActOn

  ### 33. Review of Act-On

**Rating:** 0.5/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** November 09, 2016

**What do you like best about Act-On?**

The customer service Act-On provides has always been so patient and helpful.

**What do you dislike about Act-On?**

Just about everything, this is an antiquated system with limited capabilities. We pull our hair out of our heads on a daily basis because of how many issues we encounter. We find ourselves spending way too much time on simple tasks that should take seconds to complete.

**Recommendations to others considering Act-On:**

Consider other options.

**What problems is Act-On solving and how is that benefiting you?**

We sending out targeted campaigns to prospects and current clients with this software.

  ### 34. Extremely poor service, switched to HubSpot

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Computer Software | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** September 09, 2015

**What do you like best about Act-On?**

Honestly not much. Almost every interaction we had with them was pretty poor. I suppose the fact that it's less expensive than Marketo is a bonus.

**What do you dislike about Act-On?**

The user interface - difficult and complicated, poorly designed. The performance - very slow to load. The support - they stonewalled us when we asked them to address some issues.

In more details, we used Act-On for about a year, and saw a variety of problems. Here are some of them:

Downtime and unavailability. My customers/visitors repeatedly and publicly complained about not getting downloads they signed up for. After clicking through a form and filling out their information, instead of downloading an ebook they'd get a 404 not found error on Act-On's servers. Act-On denied that this could possibly happen and refused to even investigate it seriously. I found it unconscionable that they would blame us or just close support tickets without even trying to do something simple like look at server logs. Meanwhile I was getting a black eye on social media, and it's a lose lose situation because if you say "I'm trying to fix this problem but my vendor's systems are broken" you look even worse, so I ended up just emailing a bunch of PDFs to people personally who were trying to download but could not. This was not an isolated incident, it happened over the space of months and months.

Integration with SalesForce. Instead of really integrating with SalesForce, they keep a "walled garden" around the data and link to a page within Act-On. So in SalesForce, when you're looking at activity history for example and you see an email or something, you click into it and it's just a link to a page within Act-On. This means we're going to lose all of our historical data if we leave Act-On.

Performance of the product. We hosted our own website and embedded their JavaScript tracking snippets and forms. This was a nightmare. We repeatedly measured the performance impact that this had on our website's page load time for visitors and proved that the performance of loading their JavaScript was abysmal. It was causing issues such as Google Webmaster flagging our pages as slow (and as you know, this causes a hit to Page Rank, impacts SEO, and impacts the cost and visibility of Adwords and related ads.)

Security of the product. My engineers were horrified at the quality of the Act-On code. They warned me repeatedly that by embedding Act-On's snippets and forms into our pages, we were exposing our customers and visitors to genuinely insecure code. IN addition, the quality of their externally visible code was so low it gave us no confidence that their backend systems are secure or high quality.

Integration headaches. Everything was a spaghetti mess of broken HTML and styling. It was enough to make your eyes bleed trying to work with it.

Customer success. They basically abandoned and ignored us after we onboarded. Certainly did not follow their own best practices of customer success in the ebooks they constantly produced and marketed to me.

In summary, I think Act-On is a cheap knock-off of Marketo whose business model is "churn and burn." It's a sales-first product and company that doesn't deliver on promises and doesn't care.

**Recommendations to others considering Act-On:**

Use HubSpot instead.

**What problems is Act-On solving and how is that benefiting you?**

The usual marketing automation things - email campaigns, forms and registration for downloads, lead scoring, etc.

  ### 35. Questionable Client Agreement Practices (Bait & Switch)

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Music | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** March 03, 2015

**What do you like best about Act-On?**

The software itself was pretty good. We would have loved to continue using the software and take full advantage of what it has to offer.

**What do you dislike about Act-On?**

Aggressive, high-pressure sales calls and smoke and mirror games about getting discounted prices. Ultimately though, Act-On offered us a discount, but did not disclose what future upgrade costs would be. We made our needs of what the client count would have to be clear before we signed up, but they convinced us to sign up in a lower tier to meet our budget and close the deal. But then after 3-4 months of set-up and training, we finally went to use the software in practice and needed to upgrade # of clients to actually utilize the system, and then were met with the reality of the situation. They had no intent of accommodating our original needs at the budget we discussed and tried to double our cost to get to the original needs we discussed. Even though they admitted that they were vague and unclear in the agreement on the upgrade details, they refused to accommodate our needs/budget or to let us out of our contract and instead chose to simply state that we were still bound to pay for the software until the end of the term, even though they know we won't even be able to utilize the service. Pretty poor service and they are only thinking in the short-term about making a few bucks instead of working with us to save the account.

**Recommendations to others considering Act-On:**

Be careful to get your growth plan and rates for future growth identified in your initial contract. Don't sign up unless you know what rates they will charge you in the future if you need to upgrade client #s.

**What problems is Act-On solving and how is that benefiting you?**

E-mail marketing automation.

  ### 36. Act-On is too expensive for what they offer

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Professional Training & Coaching | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 06, 2015

**What do you like best about Act-On?**

Nothing. Act-On provides nothing that other companies don't and for less money.

**What do you dislike about Act-On?**

Promise the moon and are always trying to upsell. Avoid Act-On like the plague--we've tried so many programs like this and truly thought they would be different, but they're not. Waste of money. Use a cheaper system that provides the same analytics. The worst part is that they convinced us that one of their third party partners would be able to design an email program that would deliver leads, but that was a joke! We ended up having to create the content ourselves. So we spent more money for nothing. Many less expensive programs out there that provide the same service.

**Recommendations to others considering Act-On:**

Save your money and go with a less expensive system--Act-On provides nothing that the others don't at less cost.

**What problems is Act-On solving and how is that benefiting you?**

No benefits at all. We thought they'd be able to help us with email blasts and the like, but in six months we've gotten no leads.

  ### 37. Worst Company I've ever dealt with

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Verified User in Information Technology and Services | Small-Business (50 or fewer emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** May 27, 2015

**What do you like best about Act-On?**

I liked the hands on approach and they don't just forget about you.

**What do you dislike about Act-On?**

They are only after money and care about nothing but signing on people even if they know it isn't a right fit. Lots of promises and tell you it can do more than it does.

Requires a full time associate to utilize the software.

Harass you about owing money and contracts which were fulfilled and payed up in full. Loses track of payments billing and accounting will say you owe money when you have all receipts an invoices for the contract.

**Recommendations to others considering Act-On:**

If you are a medium enterprise or corporation I highly suggest avoiding act-on unless you want to pay someone 30K a year to babysit an email marketing acquisition effort.

**What problems is Act-On solving and how is that benefiting you?**

Email marketing and future lead acquiring.

  ### 38. Great Automation at an affordable price

**Rating:** 0.0/5.0 stars

**Reviewed by:** Christopher C. | Director, Marketing, Mid-Market (51-1000 emp.)

**Reviewed Date:** July 23, 2013

**What do you like best about Act-On?**

What I like best is that ActOn does everything that Marketo and some of the others do, but without the flash and cost. It does have a slight learning curve, but once you understand the ins and outs you'll be moving along in no time.

**What do you dislike about Act-On?**

Some of the features are a little backwards or cumbersome to implement. You need to know code pretty well in order to have forms implemented into your own site. The eCommerce feature is easy to setup, but a little too simple.

**Recommendations to others considering Act-On:**

Give this product a try if you're looking for marketing automation on a budget. It does everything you'll need it to do, and the team is great about creating features that aren't available if you just ask.
