I’ve been using 500px for quite a long time, and one thing I really like is the quality standard of the platform. The image review process is detailed, which helps maintain a professional level of photography on the website. It also has an active community, so it’s easier to explore creative work, get inspiration, and reach people who genuinely appreciate high quality images. I’ve been using 500px for stock photography for quite a while, and while the platform has a strong photography community and good quality standards, there are a few areas where I feel it could improve. The biggest issue for me is the approval process. Compared to many other stock photography websites, image reviews can take quite a long time, especially when uploading content regularly. For creators who work actively and want faster publishing, this can slow down the workflow. I also think the platform can feel a little complicated for new users at the beginning. Understanding licensing, visibility settings, submissions, and marketplace features takes time, so the learning experience could be made more beginner-friendly. Another thing I noticed is that several useful features are locked behind paid plans. For photographers who are still building their portfolio or starting in stock photography, paying for multiple features may not always feel practical. The royalty earnings are also comparatively lower than some other stock platforms, so growing income through uploads can take patience and consistency. I like having the ability to see high quality work from the photographer community. I can also quickly sell my photo and set up licensing. I find it hard to earn money. I submitted a few pictures but not sure how to really commercialize and improve to meet market needs. It's also hard to find photographers at my same level - it's very intimidating to see all of the ultra experience professionals and makes me hesitate posting more photos that are not as good. The company seems to also try hard to help us commercialize & manage licensing. What do you dislike about 500px? I don't quite get what do they offer that cannot be obtained for free with good reasearch skills. The exposure is just a way to say that you are the product, meaning you could sell yourself alone anyways. Also, if people indexes their work incorrectly the search engine just becomes a little useless. There should be a way to request changes on the tags. At least I didn't see any. You want regreat it having it in installed in your phone and sneak peak it every now and then to find that amazing picture that inspire you to go out to take your own shots. Simple design, focus on the photos, not buttons, great phone app. I really like the way that it markets itself and the community. With all of the features (especially camera app for iPhone) it is a great app for photo posting and editing. In general - a great app if you are looking for a photo based social media, where people actually care about the quality of your photography and will give you an honest, sometimes rough, but always deserved opinion on your art. Nice integration with IFTTT, but I don't think that's enough. Would have been nice to have that kind of cross app communication. I like that there is a high standard for quality work. I know that if I browse 500px the majority of what I will be seeing is professional looking photographs from dedicated photographers, not snapshots from amateurs. In addition to hosting my own work, I like to visit the site for inspiration. I love the ability to curate collections of images I like to go back to later and to follow photographers I like. I also like the option to sell my own work if I choose to, and the slightly social aspect of liking and commenting the work of others. 500px is actually one of my main sources of photographic inspiration when I am looking to try something new or need some motivation to get back out there and shoot.
