Response from Stefania Oprea of 2Checkout
Hello Mahfuz! Thank you for your honest feedback. We appreciate you taking the time to review our platform and services, and we apologize for any inconvenience you may have experienced.
Please note that deposit rates are set in proportion to the level of risk of each merchant. While risk can never be entirely eliminated, it can be managed. Merchants who take an active role in preventing fraudulent claims often receive a lower deposit rate as a result.
Managing risk can be inherently more difficult in some industries. For example, intangible goods are much riskier than tangible goods from a fraud perspective, simply due to their nature. It is much easier to prove that a tangible good was shipped to a customer than to prove that a service was provided or an intangible good was delivered. This is why merchants who provide intangible goods receive more fraudulent claims.
The deposits retained are released after 90 days from the date they were retained and are included in the payout amount. However, the payout is only released if the minimum transfer limit set on the account has been reached. While there are no charges associated with refunding an order, the order processing commissions already received by 2Checkout will not be returned. This means that if you have only one order on your account and it is refunded, we will return the entire amount that the customer has paid. However, the processing fees will become a negative balance on your account, as there are no other transactions on the account to cover those fees.
The difference in the negative balance is generated by the fact that a deposit is retained from the total sales in the reporting period. But since the full amount of the sales was refunded, the deposit could no longer be retained. Paying the negative balance will cover the processing fees and the deposit retained, however, the deposit will be returned after 90 days from the date it was retained.
