I can't think about something I dislike about this, my use case was pretty simple. Maybe just be aware of network issues, allocate some time windows in which your network can handle the volume of data you are moving. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

I like the how easy is it to implement it. I played around with File and Volume gateway and eventually went with file gateway as per my project requirements.

Connecting the gateway to AD and mapping it to server/PC is really simple. I have implemented this solution instead to use on prem storage services.

EC2 host as gateway is not fully developed and definitely not easy to implement. I used Vmware Esxi as a solution and that worked out great. but i tried with ec2 first and that wasn't working with public ip. Didn't try with VPC but it should work with public as well. The ease of setup was one of the best things about utilizing AWS Storage Gateway in our production environment. We used a Stored Volume gateway in order to retain data local for quick access, and adding the VM into our VMware enviornment was quick and easy. Review collected by and hosted on G2.com.

Increasing the size of Stored Volumes was a bit of a pain. Typically you had to restore from a previous snapshot onto a larger disk on your VM. On large volumes in environments with slow internet connections, this will result in long periods of exposure where you are not getting snapshots of your data for backup retention.
