The software itself is remarkably easy to use, has all the functionality I needed (including import, export, partitioning of surveyees, and the actual trade-off analysis and supporting ranking tools). I had previously relied on statisticians and an essentially manual process to do Discrete Choice Experiments or Analytic Heirarchy Process, but this platform really streamlined the process to do everything I needed from a revealed preferences survey to criteria weighting surveys (using their PAPRIKA methodology in the background), to quickly importing business activities to rank using the (now weighted) criteria. Its hard to express how useful of a tool this is for an organization not used to using MCDA methods. The fact that it is an independent platform on the web means no hassle for software installs or updates and means you can work from any computer available. **What do you dislike about 1000minds?** I found no downsides to this tool or the support it comes with. There were no issues with access (servers offline), functionality, or anything. **What problems is 1000minds solving and how is that benefiting you?** Our organization needed to prioritize our work/programs/projects of which there are about 75-100 items. There was no conceptual way to do it by intuition, and most people that could prioritize tend to use a reductionist mental heuristic that favours one or two key criteria, without giving weight to other valid criteria. This tool allowed us to develop the criteria relevant to prioritizing the work, weight those criteria, and then rank the work items with defendable reasons and rationale. ### 3. TL;DR - Great interface - Criteria might be added anytime - Trade-offs work great and can be re-done anytime - Group projects - Mobile-friendly - Responsive support Now, for ones who loves to read: First, you choose criteria of choice - if you, for example, are willing to buy a car, then criteria might be price, body type, age, m/a transmission, capacity, mileage, etc. Criteria might have some value or other kind of score: mileage and age are numbers, body type is one of the options, etc. After that, you can do a Trade-off: 1000minds will offer you to choose between different sets of criteria. Like, will you choose a sedan with an automatic transmission or a coupe with a manual? After doing several choices (the more criteria, the more trade-offs), 1000minds will calculate criteria weights. After that, you can add "candidates" from the car reseller website, for example. You add different cars and set their criteria values - price, body type, etc. 1000minds does the sorting and each car is scored according to your criteria weights. After that, you will have all your "candidates" sorted by score. If you will be unhappy with the choice, you can re-do trade-offs and weights will be recalculated. You can share your project with other people involved in a choice problem, invite them to make trade-off sessions, and have more than one criteria weight hierarchy. All too many MCA analyses skip or oversimplify the weighting, completely undermining the results. **What do you dislike about 1000minds?** The only criticism I have is that it is too powerful! There are so many features that I'm sure there are ones that I want to use and haven't found yet. **What problems is 1000minds solving and how is that benefiting you?** Long-term electricity storage. Easily managing a large number of criteria and examining tradeoffs between options. Future plan for city coastline. Assessing the community's preferences as part of the engagement. ### 26. If you are still conducting surveys to understand preference and choice decisions using conventional survey methods you are missing out on an opportunity to gain real insights for a fraction of the cost. **What do you dislike about 1000minds?** A conditional survey path based on screening questions would be a great addition, but you can get around that by having multiple signup links. **Recommendations to others considering 1000minds:** Just give it a go, it is easy to try and once you start using it the only regret you will have is you didn't start using it earlier, and if you are not using it your competitors will be and you will start to lose market share because of this fact. **What problems is 1000minds solving and how is that benefiting you?** I use 1000minds to conduct surveys into consumer demand and have gained insights into the drivers of demand that have given my organisation a real competitive edge in the fight for market share. We are in a monopolistic market where price differentiation is not possible due to regulations so understand what other factors are high in the hierarchy of choice for our consumers is key for driving demand. ### 27. The application itself is intuitive, and everyone in the organization immediately saw the benefit of taking the guesswork out of making decisions. **What do you dislike about 1000minds?** I really have nothing to comment here. Again, the application is easy to use. Being able to see how different vendors stacked up given our requirements made making the decision easy. **What problems is 1000minds solving and how is that benefiting you?** We mostly used 1000minds for vendor selection. It really could be used for anything though. I'm hoping we have more capacity in the future to leverage it in more decisions. ### 29.
