There is a very thin line between personalization and surveillance. When a brand surfaces information that a user didn't explicitly share—like predicting a life event based on subtle purchase shifts—it can trigger a strong "privacy gag reflex." If the customer asks, "How did they know that?" instead of saying, "That’s helpful," the strategy has backfired.
