# What does "autonomous patching with human oversight" mean in practice?

When the Adaptiva Metadata team publishes a new patch the system automatically determines the systems that require the update and then matches the metadata about the patch to the criteria specified in the customer strategies, including filters defined for finite control, then deploys them based on predetermined schedules, deployment and reboot windows, as well as optional queues that can be created. Human oversight is preserved through: configurable Transitions before or between deployments to Business Units including; Approval  (requiring administrators to approve before deployment proceeds), Success Gates (allowing the configuration of the percentage of successful deployments from previous targets and/or the percentage of acceptable failures), Delay (holding deployment for a defined period providing time to review stability of patch(s)). In addition, Flex Controls allow pause, rollback, block, or exceptions of patches, products, and deployments. Notifications can be created alerting administrators at each stage via email, Teams, SMS, or WhatsApp.
