Puoi solo importare/posizionare file da Illustrator a InDesign. Non puoi aprire file .ai o .eps di Illustrator in InDesign.

se hai Illustrator aperto, seleziona l'oggetto che desideri e trascinalo in un file InDesign aperto. rimane vettoriale. se è un file grande, lo convertirà in un EPS. 
puoi sempre inserire file [EPS, JPG, PDF] in un documento InDesign. comando + d
