RStudio est l'IDE le plus populaire pour exécuter des programmes R et dispose d'une licence gratuite. L'environnement logiciel officiel R est un environnement logiciel libre open-source au sein du package GNU, disponible sous la licence publique générale GNU. Il est principalement écrit en C, Fortran et R lui-même (partiellement auto-hébergé).
