Fake recruiters are getting more common, especially on platforms like LinkedIn, so it’s smart to be cautious. Here’s a practical checklist to help you spot and avoid them:
1. Verify the company and recruiter identity
Check if the recruiter has a real, active profile on LinkedIn Talent Solutions
Look for:
Complete work history
Real connections (not just a few random ones)
Consistent job titles and company tenure
Search the company independently (don’t rely only on links they send)
2. Watch for red flags in communication
Be cautious if they:
Message you about a job you didn’t apply for but give very little detail
Push you to move quickly (“urgent hiring”, “offer today”)
Use poor grammar or very generic job descriptions
Avoid video calls or official company email addresses
3. Check email domains carefully
Real recruiters use company domains like @company.com
Fake ones often use:
Gmail / Yahoo / Outlook addresses
Slightly altered domains (e.g., company-careers.com instead of company.com)
4. Never pay money
A legitimate recruiter or employer will never ask you for:
Application fees
Training fees
Equipment deposits
“Processing charges”
If they do → it’s almost certainly a scam.
5. Validate the job posting
Cross-check the role on the company’s official careers page
Look for consistency in salary, job description, and location
Be cautious if the pay is unrealistically high for the role
6. Ask for proof
A real recruiter won’t hesitate to provide:
Company website job link
Official email signature
LinkedIn company page
Interview process details
7. Trust the interview process
Legit companies usually have:
Structured interviews
At least one video/phone call
Clear evaluation steps
Scammers often rush straight to “offer” or “onboarding.”

### Comment 2
