# Working from home permanently

I was wondering what are the hardware and software needed to enable a fully functional work from home setup for users?
Should a business consider doing it full-time and what are some of its advantages?

Hi Rajeev - a WFH setup depends on if you’re using a PC or laptop, and how many monitors you want. Personally, I have a laptop that was originally provided by my employer, and I have attached a 2nd monitor with a wireless mouse and keyboard through a docking station. You can always expand or adjust this setup based on your personal preferences.

In regards to software, this depends on what type of communication tools you need. For video conferencing, there are several alternatives to Zoom that you (or your team) can use, many of which offer free trial periods (https://www.g2.com/categories/video-conferencing/free). One of the top rated video conferencing softwares on G2 is Skype (https://www.g2.com/products/skype/reviews), which offers a smartphone app as well, followed by Cisco Webex Meetings (https://www.g2.com/products/cisco-webex-meetings/reviews), and GoToMeeting (https://www.g2.com/products/gotomeeting/reviews). Other popular apps are Microsoft Teams (https://www.g2.com/products/microsoft-teams/reviews) and Google Hangouts (https://www.g2.com/products/google-hangouts-meet/reviews).

If you are looking for tools to keep your team engaged and motivated, some examples of helpful platforms that teams are currently using are workflow management tools (https://www.g2.com/categories/project-collaboration), which help to streamline communications, collaboration and remote work, and video calling (https://www.g2.com/categories/video-conferencing), so team members can chat, share screens and collaborate in person.

Take a look at the article I wrote about how employees are responding to working from home, based on a recent survey G2 conducted by questioning almost 700 companies - https://research.g2.com/insights/small-business-employees-remote-work-experiences
