For us the free tiers held up right until we needed two things, private internal boards and any real workflow beyond upvoting. Canny's free tier is public-board only, so the day we wanted staff ideas kept internal we had to move up a plan, that was the tipping point. The other trap is per-seat pricing, it's fine at five people and brutal the moment the whole company joins, so for a startup I'd look for workspace-based pricing instead, Ideanote was the one that priced that way rather than per head. Was the upgrade worth it? Yes, but only once we were actually running a process with stages, owners, and reporting, not just to remove a logo or lift a limit. If you're only collecting votes, the free tiers stretch further than you'd expect.
