# Which columnar databases provide secure data sharing across teams without having to copy or move data so different teams can query the same source without data governance headaches?

&lt;p&gt;&lt;span style=&quot;color: rgb(0, 0, 0);&quot;&gt;Rocket Vertica&#39;s ability to integrate across sources without moving data first is what I&#39;d want for a team spread across clouds and on-prem already. Not needing to pick one cloud&#39;s sharing model just to get secure access working is a real advantage when the infrastructure is already mixed.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;What turns working access controls into actual confidence is being able to answer one question quickly: who can currently see this column, and how did they get there. Expressive controls make that harder rather than easier, because access arrives through a chain of roles granted to roles, plus a view somebody built that quietly selects the column into a dataset with looser permissions. Every control worked as designed and nobody can reconstruct the path. That&#39;s what makes BigQuery&#39;s policy tags interesting as a pattern rather than just a feature, since the sensitivity travels with the column instead of being re-asserted on every object built above it. The question I&#39;d put to any of these is how you&#39;d produce that who-can-see-this answer on demand.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Snowflake does this really well on paper. BigQuery also handles it cleanly with views and policy layers, but governance can get messy as teams grow. Did anything here actually feel easy to manage once multiple teams started depending on the same data?&lt;/p&gt;
