Typically I prefer face to face. Survey Monkey offers a way to access customers in a mass communication format. Be sure to ask in a yes/no format vs an open ended question. Be direct and non repetitive. Surveys with fewer questions help customers not to get bored. Time is essential to both you and the customer.

You can send mass e-mail to all of your current customers or hand out a flyer in shop to every customer asking to do the survey. You could even make incentives for surveyor's like a 10% off their next service with a complete survey.
