To effectively "capture" (thus make an image or any type of file of)  whatever is one your screen - be it the entire screen or a tiny part of it. Unlike the windows "printscreen" option, these software enable the user to capture parts of the screen as well -  especially useful in scenarios where would do not want to actually share what is bookmarked on your screen and what not... in interest of your privacy
