We use it to be prepared for a disaster and test it every year to ensure we have up to date contact information for employees.  We have used it to communicate to affected employees who have a computer system down to flex their time or to notify employees of a train derailment impacting commutes to leave the office.  Also, notifying if the office has to close for some reason. It's essentially an updated version of the phone tree but everyone can get the message at the same time (via phone call, text, email).
