# What is SAP Crystal Reports?

SAP Crystal Reports is a business intelligence application used to design and generate reports from a wide range of data sources. Several other applications, such as Microsoft Visual Studio, bundle an OEM version of Crystal Reports as a general purpose reporting tool. SAP Crystal Reports became the de facto standard report writer when Microsoft originally bundled it with Visual Basic in the mid 90s.  It's the reporting tool of choice for millions of IT professionals, application developers and report consumers.

Our Supply Chain team uses CR to build many on demand reports to pull data from an Oracle database within the Infor/Lawson system.

SAP Crystal is a report writing software that can connect to various databases that are SQL-based or similar to facilitate report writing. Technically coding knowledge isn't required, but it certainly helps quite a bit for advanced reporting.
