Onspring is a great tool for business process automation.  It ships with sample processes around Goverenance, Risk, Compliance, Disaster Recovery, Vender Risk Management etc. but can be leveraged to automate any process, i.e. anything your team is currently achieving with a mix of shared sheets and emails would gain levels of efficiency by moving it to Onspring.
