The Jamf Pro Server is the management portion of the Jamf software. Installed either of Windows/Linux server equipment or hosted in the cloud by Jamf, this is where all configurations and inventory can be accessed. The Jamf Pro server communicates configurations and profiles to clients either directly or through Apple’s APNS service.

### Comment 2

A Jamf Pro server is a server either on premise or hosted in the cloud by Jamf. On premise servers can be hosted from a Linux server or Windows. In the past, we were able to host Jamf Pro from macOS. Jamf phased out Jamf Pro on macOS last year. Jamf Pro consists of multiple components: A web server called Tomcat, Java, and a database running on MySQL. All of these work together to provide the interface we see when we login to a Jamf Pro server. The MySQL database stores our device inventory, scripts, and settings. If you choose to host Jamf Pro on premise, I highly suggest that you host it from Linux.
