# What is a “Black Box” solution and why should I avoid it?

A “Black Box” solution is an AI solution that does not give the user insights or control over the defined output, in this case optimized prices. Rather than showing how an answer was reached a “Black Box” will reason that the output is because “The Machine Says So…” VDPG allows the user to determine the level of AI they want to use for segmentation and prune the segmentation tree as they see fit. In addition, through custom business rules, users can manage the algorithmic pricing to reflect sound business judgment from a pricing department.
