Smokeball includes the features you expect from a practice management system: Matter and contact management, calendar management, and billing. It also includes complete trust account management, email management, and its secure messaging system (Communicate). Matter Management on Smokebsll is very powerful, allowing you to keep detailed information on your client, the opposing parties, the experts and other persons you want to manage, the case details, the judge and JA details, and much more.

Smokeball is a hybrid cloud and Windows system. Files are kept in the cloud, and you may access them with software for Windows. Smokeball does not support Mac computers or laptops. However, the iPhone app handles most of Smokeball's features, except billing. Smokeball also has some very advanced features:

Document Automation: I have been a Hot Docs user for ten years and have transitioned most of my Hot Doc templates to Smokeball with few problems. Your license includes having Smokeball automate ten of your forms at a time. Smokeball's best automation feature is the ability to use all the data you track in a document.

Time Tracking. When I transitioned to Smokeball, the most significant advantage I found over other systems I have used is AI-driven time tracking. Smokeball integrates fully with Microsoft 365 applications (Word, Excel, and Outlook are fully integrated, which means your time drafting or editing a Word, Excel, or outlook document is tracked to the minute. The system even pauses tracking if you do nothing to the document for six minutes, and tracking will start again if you start working on the document after Smokeball pauses the time tracking. All time tracked is entered each evening as a time record. When you open PDF documents in a matter, time is tracked and entered into the Matter's time records. My telephony provider is RingCentral, which is fully integrated with Smokeball. Every night, RingCentral sends Smokeball the time spent on every call. Smokeball enters a time record in Time and Expenses if the telephone number is attached to a Matter and enters the time and telephone number for calls not attached to a Matter. When I began using Smokeball, my time records increased by as much as 50%.
