Parallels helps you to run MS Windows and its applications on your Mac. For example, you can install MS Office for Mac, but some MS applications like Visio or Project doesn't have a Mac version and thus can't be installed on a Mac. That's where the Parallels comes to the rescue - You can install MS Windows as a virtual machine (VM) on your Mac and run all Windows-compatible software when you need it. As soon as you finished - you just shutdown Windows VM and continue to use Mac as usual.
And it's not only business software - you can use Parallels to run Windows games on your Mac in the same way. Of course, it depends on your hardware specs and game requirements but still Parallels is well0optimized and gives you max of what's possible.
