# What are the main challenges you have encountered when installing or upgrading from Maximo 7.6.1.* to Maximo Application Suite (MAS)?

One of the main challenges when installing or upgrading Maximo 7.6.1.2 to MAS is the change in architecture. With Maximo 7.6.1.2, installation and configuration are more traditional, whereas MAS relies on containers and Red Hat OpenShift, which requires additional skills and infrastructure preparation.

Another major challenge is managing customizations. Existing automation scripts, integrations, custom Java classes, and modified applications need to be assessed to make sure they remain compatible with the new environment.

Database migration and data integrity are also important, especially when dealing with a large volume of data and complex integrations. On top of that, you need to plan for security, certificates, persistent storage, performance, and testing.

From my perspective, the biggest challenge is not simply installing the new platform. It is making sure that the existing Maximo environment can be migrated smoothly without disrupting business operations. Proper preparation, compatibility checks, and testing are essential to a successful upgrade.
