My students work in groups and need to collaborate on designs, and I would love best practices from real businesses and experts on how this works in a company.

In order to work with multiple people to collaborate, you can use Autodesk Vault basic or professional. If you have outside collaboration you might consider Fusion Lifecycle.

Hi, to be honest with you, I would work with a consultant on that. It shouldn't take more than a day for a consultant to help with a report that will answer all your questions.
