# What actually happens the moment a driver flags a defect?

When a driver fails an item during an inspection, Whip Around creates a defect tied to that asset. If the device is online, the inspection syncs to the dashboard right away and the failed item shows up for managers to review; if the device is offline, it stays on the phone and syncs when service returns. From there, managers can review photos and comments, update priority, severity and status, assign the defect to a mechanic, vendor, or third party, and—if Maintain is enabled—turn it into a work order. Assigned repair contacts receive an email, so the issue moves from inspection to action quickly.
