# Two-Factor Authentication and OpenPhone?

Why when I want to have a bank or the IRS (for two examples) send me a text message to clear two-factor identification checks does OpenPhone not receive the text message when I provide my OpenPhone phone number?

Hi Jason, thank you for a great question. In many cases, services that use 2-factor authentication don't allow virtual phone numbers to be used during the registration/verification step. Services like Facebook, Uber, Airbnb, PayPal, WhatsApp, and banks, for example, don't allow virtual phone numbers to be used for this purpose. This is because virtual numbers are much easier to get and work on multiple devices, therefore, making them less desirable for authentication purposes. 

This means that you won't be able to sign up for an account using an OpenPhone number. We recommend using your personal phone number for new account creation and OpenPhone for all other purposes as you see fit.
