# Sync and LibriVox Offer Free Audiobooks

Sync is an annual reading marathon for teenagers run by AudioFile Magazine and OverDrive. The challenge is not to read a specific book, but to pick a book and listen to its audiobook version. The FAQ on the Sync website explains how the event works. Sync participants gain access to two free audiobooks each week during the summer. Participants also get discounts on audiobooks, so it's a great way to get your reading list underway.

LibriVox is a non-profit initiative that records free public domain books and releases them as audiobooks. It boasts over 10,000 projects and thousands of audiobooks available for download. Despite being free, you may have to disable your ad blocker in order to access them. Other restrictions may apply, such as entering your library card number. If you're concerned about your security, opt for a free website that doesn't require you to download software or enter payment information.

LibriVox also has a large library of public domain audiobooks. Volunteer readers read these books for the public. You can either download the audiobook to your computer or use the LibriVox app to listen to it on your smartphone. The LibriVox app has a 4.8-star rating on Google Play and is available for iOS and Android devices. To browse the library of audiobooks, search by author, genre, language, and author.
