# Realistic deployment timeline for SD-WAN at a new location — days, weeks?

We’re opening a new location and need internet connectivity with reliable failover before the doors open, but our wired ISP install date keeps slipping. For teams that have deployed Bigleaf SD-WAN, how quickly can it be brought online in practice—is it a multi-day professional installation, or can someone on-site plug it in with minimal technical experience? We’re also looking for a wireless or 5G option to get online while we wait for the wired circuit.

Good news on both counts — this is closer to plug-and-play than a multi-day professional install, and Bigleaf has a 5G LTE option for getting online before your wired circuit shows up.

On the install itself: most of the work happens before anyone is on-site. Bigleaf pre-provisions the device remotely first — IP blocks assigned, routing configured — and ships it to the location already set up, typically within 4 days of contract start, with expedited overnight shipping available when needed. What happens on-site is a WAN IP swap: the router connects to your ISP circuit(s) and presents a single connection to your existing firewall, which takes minutes, not hours, and does not require a dedicated technician or truck roll. A person on-site can plug it in and go, provided the pre-provisioning step happened in advance.

On the wired-install-date-slipping problem specifically: Bigleaf has a wireless option built for exactly this scenario. It runs over 5G LTE, gets activated immediately rather than waiting on a fiber or cable install date, and can provide the same active-active failover and traffic-optimization benefits when paired with multiple circuits or plans. If you start with a single connection, you still get Bigleaf’s Dynamic QoS rather than a stripped-down stopgap. Once your wired circuit does come in, that same connection can become a secondary or load-balancing circuit rather than dead weight, so it is not wasted spend once the wired circuit is live.
