# PR reporting best practice - some recommendations for in house PR teams!

When Heads of PR or Comms Directors ask how *other* in-house teams prove ROI to their boards, here's what I share. Have I missed anything? Let me know.

👉 They have a unified measurement framework

All internal teams and external agencies are working to the same KPIs.

👉 They use modern PR metrics to prove impact

Automated Key Message Penetration, Perception Analysis, Brand Recall, Attention Measurement - these are modern, automated PR metrics.

Reach, Coverage Views, Domain Authority - dated, and they don't prove ROI.

👉 They educate senior stakeholders

Coverage is only part of the story.

Crisis averted, narrative shifted, journalist relationship built, spokesperson coached, industry event owned - all of them move the needle.

The best comms teams make sure their boards understand the full picture.

👉 They adopt a sensible reporting cadence

The monthly report is a snapshot of coverage and activities.

The quarterly wrap-up shows how PR is contributing to specific goals.

The annual report is a business case for further investment.

👉 They present results in a professional, compelling way

Even the greatest campaign is essentially invisible if senior stakeholders struggle to engage with the report.

Presenting results in a visual, digestible way is vital for in-house teams looking to prove ROI to their board.
