# Why do older phones stop receiving updates more frequently? Like the J2 Prime, an old phone that many people still have.

Because if they keep updating their operating system and improving their software features, no one will buy new phones anymore, they will just keep updating their old cell phone. For that same reason, even smart TVs have a certain number of useful life hours, so people have to buy again. If they made products that lasted forever, they would go bankrupt, as no one would buy products ever again.
