I don't think it is an "industry" as much as will this platform meet your requirements.  Define what you want a LMS to do, support, and provide (reports, certificates, etc.) your learning community.  I am a consultant and use TLMS supporting and piloting elearning projects for varied clients ranging from manufacturing, clinical, retail, and a couple of private entrepreneur's with topics including leadership, compliance, and internal communications.  I also use TLMS as a stand alone (completely asynchronous ) platform to a blended with the easy integration of Zoom with TLMS allowing me to host webconferences within the TLMS course.  

Define what you want a LMS to do upfront and compare platforms to that.  If you want to discuss more let me know!   www.williamjryan.com
