No, It is currently selling for $349.  It is no longer owned by Sony. It is now owned by a German company called Magix.

No, it's not free, but they do have a free trial. Also, they put out new versions constantly, (which is the only complaint I have) and there's always a upgrade fee. I probably only upgrade on 2nd or 3rd time.
