# Is it possible to unredact documents?

I was actually wondering if there's a way to un redact prehospital y redacted documents? Thanks!!

no—properly redacted documents can’t be “un-redacted.”
When redaction is done correctly (the underlying text/data is actually removed, not just covered visually), that information is permanently gone. There isn’t a legitimate method to recover it.

No, because if a document has been properly redacted then no content exists under the black redaction area to recover, the text which was redacted is removed completely from the document and replaced with black blocks.  That is the whole purpose of redaction, too securely remove content
