You can do the same things with Affinity and Illustrator.  The biggest drawback I encountered was when trying to share files with someone who was using Illustrator.  There is no way to do it.  I can make some really fun artwork with Affinity Designer but not being able to work cross platform forced me to switch to Illustrator for the project where it was needed.
