# Is a board portal an app or a separate software?

I'm trying to find out how a board portal can help our company's directors and executives.

Hi Kayla, a board portal is a centralized platform that allows board administrators to distribute digital board packs and documents to their directors in a secure environment.

Board directors would then have an app installed in their devices that is connected to their portal site to be able to safely receive their documents. This then allows them to digitally meet and collaborate with each other, allowing for remote meetings and work. In addition, through their app they have instant access to features that allows them take notes, vote, etc. just like in real life board meetings!
