# In ReadCube Papers, are PDFs stored online *only*?

I want to keep PDFs on my hard drive, both for searchability and as a hedge against getting locked in to a proprietary format. Current Papers 3 automatically renames PDFs and files them on my hard drive. Does ReadCube Papers offer this, or are PDFs in the app online only?

Absolutely! We have desktop apps for both Mac and PC (papersapp.com/download). You can click the gear icon to the right of your personal or any shared library to “Sync Offline”. 

File management feature can help with local physical file organization and customizing file names. You can find that menu in desktop app top menu Papers > File Management.
