# If you increase a list post from say 11 to 21, would you change the URL?

I have lengthened a few of my list posts but the old URL still shows the old number of tips. I asked the question on Brandon's FB page but it looks like that hasn't been updated for years. Would you change the URL add a redirect and republish to now say 21 tips for... ?

I wouldn't include the number in the URL in the first place. If I write a post about (for example)  11 best tofu recipes, I would make the URL something like 'best-tofu-recipes', so even if I change the number later on, the URL does not need changing. 
If you included the number in the URL for a specific post in the past, you might want to re-evaluate whether you can risk changing the URL. If it's currently ranking well and bringing you decent traffic, I wouldn't touch it. If it's not ranking anywhere near the top, you could risk updating it. Just note that changing the URL will also break any backlinks that existed to the post, adding extra work to find and update these. It might also be worth seeing who currently ranks higher than you for the search term. If it's big and established pages only, and your site is fairly new, then you're unlikely to outrank any of them, no matter the changes you make. 
And if the post ranks well but doesn't bring much traffic, the keyword might have a low search volume and updating the post might not be worth your time.

Don't put the numer in the URL in the first place and increasing the number won't have an effect on the URL at all

As far as I know, it is not a good idea to change the URL (I am pretty sure I heard Brandon say that in a podcast on optimizing your URL for SEO.

If it is an old post that has already been pinned to Pinterest or indexed in Google, don't change the URL. It does more harm than good per SEO experts I've worked with. Just change the title and update the post.

Megan, you should never change your permalink URL. That can cause you to lose your existing rankings.  If you made significant additions, then you can change the publish date to the current date.
