# I got a 997 rejection from my trading partner. What does that mean and how do I fix it?

A 997 (Functional Acknowledgment) is your trading partner's system telling you whether it could read and accept the document you sent. If you got a rejection, it means something in your 810 didn't pass their validation. Common causes include mismatched PO numbers, incorrect segment counts, invalid formatting, or data that doesn't conform to the retailer's specific specs.
