# how to crop in adobe illustrator

Need to crop out the bottom of an image

Method 1 (Permanent): Select the image and right-click. From the context menu choose &quot;Crop Image.&quot; You&#39;ll get a warning that this will result in the cropped image being embedded. Just click through that and then use the handles to drag the crop where you want it to be.

Method 2 (Non-destructive but awkward): A) Draw a rectangle above the image that outlines the boundaries you need for the crop. B) In the Layers panel or on the artboard, select both the rectangle and the image. C) From the top menu, choose Object &gt; Clipping Mask &gt; Make *or* use the keyboard shortcut Cmd/Ctl-7.
