# How has Drivetrain helped you move off large Excel budgets and fix version control issues?

Drivetrain has removed a lot of the struggle we had with huge Excel workbooks, slow file opening, and version control problems when multiple people were editing. The live connection to data sources has also replaced manually updating monthly data in Excel, and it’s helped us budget at an employee level using a roster to see leavers/starters and the impact on headcount, costs, and GP. One challenge is that some aspects we needed were still in development, but onboarding support helped us find workarounds. What parts of your budgeting process improved most, and where have you still needed workarounds?

For me, the biggest improvement has been pulling financial and operational data from different systems into one place, which cuts down a lot of manual consolidation for reporting, budget vs. actual analysis, and forecasting. The flexibility to build models and customized reports is a big win for visibility into key metrics. The main workaround is the learning curve on advanced datasets, metrics, and reports, since some tasks need SQL or DAX and data mapping can be time-consuming. I’ve also had to be careful with dataset changes because they can ripple into dependent reports or metrics.
