# How does Kisi compare to Salto KS?

We're looking at both Salto KS and Kisi for a new deployment. We'd like to understand how they differ in terms of hardware requirements, migration options, integrations, and flexibility before making a decision.

Salto KS is built around Salto's proprietary smart lock ecosystem, making it a strong choice for organizations that want to deploy Salto hardware throughout their facilities. Kisi takes a software-first approach that works with existing electronic locks and supports flexible migration paths, allowing many organizations to modernize access control without replacing their entire door infrastructure.

Another key difference is deployment flexibility. With Kisi, organizations can often keep existing wiring, readers, and credentials by installing a Controller Pro 2 with a Wiegand board, then gradually transition to additional Kisi hardware over time. This approach can reduce upfront hardware replacement and make migrations more manageable.

Both platforms support cloud-based management, mobile credentials, and remote administration.
