# How do you handle ChatGPT answering confidently when it doesn’t really know?

I like how ChatGPT can turn a rough scribble into a clear, polished write-up tailored to my requirements, and it’s also useful for outlining a detailed structure for a PowerPoint presentation. One challenge is that it will respond to almost anything, even when it doesn’t actually know the answer, and it can drift into creative writing instead of giving the real content (like song lyrics). How do you spot when it’s guessing, and what prompts or checks help you keep the output accurate for day-to-day office work?

I double check important information with reliable sources and ask follow up questions if a response seems uncertain or overly confident.

Calmly repeat the question or change the wording. Errors will almost certainly be present, and they can't be eliminated completely, but you can significantly narrow the range of answer choices and/or find an alternative.
