# Is there an updated version of Ubuntu?

It is important to know if there are new versions of Ubuntu.

21.04, the next one will be available in October 21.10 and no, you do not need to have the most recent version. However, it is best if you update regularly so you always have the latest drivers versions and patches, etc.
Of course the latest versions have all these along with some more bells ans whistles but, if you do not want to go through the hassle of installing or upgrading, you can use the one you have. I usually skip one update, for example: I only install the version that come out in October so, now, I am still running on 20.10.
